Nancy Ann Lambe Taubert, 81, passed away peacefully at Spring Arbor Cottages Memory Care on Monday, September 22, 2025, after a long journey with Alzheimer's Disease. While her memory dimmed, her kindness and quick wit continued to shine through. Even in her diminished state, Nancy made friends at Spring Arbor and was known as "Nurse Nancy" as she "helped" the staff in the care of the other residents.
Nancy was born on January 5, 1944, in Seattle, WA. She was the first daughter of the late Arvid and Elizabeth "Betty" Lambe. She is survived by her brother, Raymond Lambe; and sisters, Janet Marx, Mary Ann Bentler, and Karen Riedel, and their children. She is also survived by Patricia Eberhardt Stamm and John Eberhardt, the niece and nephew of her late husband (Robert "Bob" Taubert), as well as their siblings and children.
Nancy grew up in Seattle and attended Holy Names High School. Growing up, Nancy enjoyed camping and fishing trips with her family. Being the eldest, she helped her mother care for her younger sisters. Nancy attended Seattle University pursuing a bachelor's degree in nursing. Following university, Nancy joined the Navy achieving the rank of Captain. It was during her service at Camp Pendelton Naval Hospital in Oceanside, CA that she met her husband. Bob's career took them to St. Paul, MN and Greenville, NC before settling in Fredericksburg, VA where they made a life for more than 40 years.
Nancy led a full life in Fredericksburg working as a registered nurse at Mary Washington Hospital, teaching CPR to the community, and instructing future nurses and nurses aids at Germanna Community College. She joined an investment club and vegetarian group and was active in the opening of the Fredericksburg Food Cooperative. In her free time, Nancy enjoyed being outdoors and was an avid bicyclist. She was an active member of the Fredericksburg Cyclist bicycle club for over 30 years. With retirement, Nancy, along with her good friend Rosemary Pitts, was able to travel both within the USA and Europe with the Virginia Odyssey bicycle group. Additionally, she enjoyed sharing dinners, going to performances, including volunteering as an usher at the Kennedy Center, and traveling with her close friends, Cary and Pat Chen.
While Nancy did not have children of her own, she and Bob opened their home to their many nieces and nephews. Nancy became especially close to her niece, Patricia, and her family, becoming a mother/grandmother figure to them. Her nephew, John, also had a special relationship and was the primary caregiver for Bob and Nancy in their final years. For their nieces and nephews on the West Coast, Nancy and Bob provided a much-treasured opportunity to visit Virginia with Nancy showing them the many historical sites of Northern Virginia and Washington, D.C. Nancy also provided a loving home to many dogs and cats over the years.
Nancy was a light that touched so many people, and she will be deeply missed. Her spirit will live on in our hearts and memories.
A memorial service and reception will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Monday, October 27, 2025, at Covenant Funeral Service, Stafford.
In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in Nancy's name to the Brisben Center for Homelessness or the Fredericksburg Regional Food Bank.
