Nancy J. Traverse, a cherished wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend, passed away peacefully surrounded by her husband and seven children on September 18, 2025, at Beaumont Skilled Nursing in Westborough. Born in Arlington on March 25, 1950, to the late Everett H. and Barbara A. (Chase) Urquhart, Nancy's life was marked by her unwavering faith in her Savior Jesus, her love of music, and her dedication to her family.
Nancy's journey began in Arlington, where she attended Arlington High School. Her passion for helping others led her to Somerville Hospital - School of Nursing, where she earned her nursing degree. In her early years, Nancy's caring touch and compassionate spirit comforted countless patients as she worked as a dedicated nurse. Her nurturing nature extended beyond her professional life and into the hearts of all who knew her.
Nancy's love of music guided her to a vocation that would define much of her life. She served with joy and commitment as the music director at Pine Street Baptist Church in Milford, Hill Memorial Baptist Church in Allston, and West Medford Baptist Church in Medford. Her melodious voice and skillful direction of choirs uplifted many souls and brought communities together in worship and song.
In 1988, Nancy became a resident of Milford, where she continued to enrich the lives of those around her through her musical talents. Over the years, Nancy shared her love of music with countless piano students, including teaching fifteen of her grandchildren. Her passion for music was matched only by the pride she took in her family's achievements. Nancy's nearly 54-year marriage to her beloved husband, Paul G. Traverse, was a testament to enduring love and mutual respect.
Together, they raised a beautiful family, including sons Nathan Traverse and his wife Melissa of Holliston, Joseph Traverse and his wife Emma of Plainville, and daughters Jennifer Hava and her husband Brian of Hopedale, Sarah Cruz and her husband Nathaniel of Milford, Rachel Otlin and her husband Joshua of Hopedale, Leah Travese of New Orleans, and Rebekah Napoli and her husband Dominic of Hopedale. Nancy's legacy continues through her 17 grandchildren, who will carry her spirit forward.
Nancy is survived by her brother, Steve Urquhart and his wife Kathy of Duxbury, and a large, loving extended family. Her life was a beautiful reflection of her faith-filled and thoughtful nature, touching all who had the privilege of knowing her.
