JOHN H. TRAVERSE

TRAVERSE, John H. Age 80, of Estero, FL, formerly of Braintree, died unexpectedly, on January 9, 2026. John was born on August 14, 1945, in Boston, a son of the late John W. Traverse and Rosetta T. (Doherty) Traverse. John was a graduate of Boston English High School and Boston College. He then joined the family business, J.W. Traverse Insurance Agency. The company was founded by his parents, in 1950, in Dorchester, Massachusetts, and later relocated to Quincy and to Milton. John dedicated more than 40 years to the agency before retiring. The firm is still proudly operated today by his brother, Paul and nephew, Michael. John was an avid golfer and a long-time member of Wollaston Golf Club in Milton, Massachusetts. He enjoyed boating and fishing, especially for stripers in Plymouth. He was also a grower of some of the finest tomatoes and vegetables in the Braintree area. John is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Maureen P. Traverse of Estero, FL; his daughter, Meaghan M. Traverse and her husband, Christopher T. Cox of Annandale, VA; two grandchildren, John Cox and Maggie Cox; his brother, Paul Traverse and his wife, Joan, of Milton; his sister, Maureen Collins and her late husband, John, of Quincy; and many nieces and nephews. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, February 4, 2026, at 11:30 AM, at St. Leo the Great Catholic Church, 28300 Beaumont Rd., Bonita Springs, FL. Additional Services will be held in Milton, with Burial at Blue Hills Cemetery, Braintree, at a date to be announced.
