EDWARD DOYLE Obituary

DOYLE, Edward P. Age 85, of Falmouth, formerly of Westwood, passed away peacefully, at JML Care Center in Falmouth, on January 22, 2026. He was the beloved husband of Marcia Doyle; and son of the late Edward Sr. and Helen Doyle. Edward graduated from Boston English High School and received his Associates Degree in Graphic Arts from the School of Practical Art in Boston. He worked as a graphic artist at Sears and Zayre's, before he became the heart and soul of the world's most famous bar, Cheers in Boston, where he created a gathering place, where stories were told and friendships were formed. He was able to continue his artistic skills there, designing logos, menus, and T-shirts, etc. Doyle was known for decades of charitable fundraising in Boston, raising thousands of dollars through Cheers for Children, Friends of Floating, Cheers for Kids, Globe Santa, etc. He loved running and fundraising with his friend, Tommy Leonard. Ed was the proud founder of the Boston Barleyhoppers Running Club during the early 1980s, when running was just becoming a popular sport and the co-founder, with Tommy, of the Falmouth Walk which is now in its 35th year. Eddie was a loving husband, brother and uncle and will be dearly missed by all who loved and knew him. Ed was a gentleman and a scholar. He loved to make you laugh. The first time he really showed his humor to me was at his parents-in-laws 50th wedding anniversary. It was a roast! The stage didn´t frighten him and what better stage than the Cheers bar! He even would let me and my brother go behind the bar and serve a couple of drinks when we would visit from Miami. From insulting the meager tips left by the British to spinning a cautionary tale, he was gifted with gab. Bartenders are supposed to be the recipients of generosity, but Ed flipped that on its head! Philanthropic until the day he died, Ed will be forever remembered as the bartender who gave away his heart of gold one nugget at a time. I love you uncle Ed. RIP

Wow - never know what to say, but my memories go way back to the late 70s and early 80s. I loved going there even without all the Cheers story. It was a great place upstairs and downstairs in the bar. Treated everyone so well wonderful bartenders and waitresses. Wish I could reconnect. I love that we used to "Roam for foam"

Marcia, I am so sorry to learn of Eddie's passing.

I count myself fortunate to have received the gift of his friendship. Let me tell you, that's the very definition of "the gift that keeps on giving".

Which is appropriate, because Eddie was giving personified. He gave generously of his time and his talents, his compassion and his creativity, his love and his laughter. He had an innate sense for knowing when someone needed their spirits lifted or a shoulder to lean on. In those moments, whether it was sincerely serving as a sounding board or slyly popping in a set of comical false teeth and giving you an unexpectedly twisted grin, Eddie knew exactly what the moment called for... and, boy did he deliver.

Eddie was the very best at what he did. What he did was make a difference.

Love to you and the family.

My sincere condolences to those who loved Eddie Doyle.
Eddie was very kind to me when I was a young man. I met him while bartending at Lawrence´s in Falmouth Heights back in the 90´s.
He helped me get a job at 75 Chesnut in Beacon Hill soon after they opened that fall.
I´ll always be grateful to him for that.
His life of service to his fellows never ended at last call, his countless acts of kindness and generosity reflected his character and that inspired me later in life to share in that selfless service to others.
Thank you Eddie.
Rest in peace.
