Paul McManus Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Dockray & Thomas Funeral Home on Mar. 19, 2026.
Paul Edward McManus, 95, passed away peacefully on March 17, 2026, at the VA Hospital in West Roxbury. Born in Boston, Massachusetts, he was the beloved son of the late Henry and Mary McManus (MacKenzie).

Paul is survived by his wife Mary, his daughters Susan and Mary McManus of Canton, his beloved sister Janet McManus of Mashpee; grandsons Christopher, his wife, Lizzie, and his great-grand daughter Lucy Grace McManus (Walpole) and Brendan McManus (Roslindale). He was predeceased by his son Paul J. McManus.

Paul met his first love, Golf, during his time as a caddy at South End Caddy Camp in Poland Springs, ME., during the summers of 1946 and 1947. Paul was a very proud graduate of Boston English High School, class of 1948. He honorably served in the United States Marine Corps during the Korean War era.

Following his military service, Paul returned home to Roslindale, where he met the other love of his life, Mary Sheehan, of West Roxbury, who he met through her brother, a Marine Corps buddy. They married on Sept. 11th, during Hurricane Edna.

One of the happiest times of Paul's life was fishing with his son and grandsons at West Branch Pond in Rangley, Maine.

A man of deep faith, Paul's life was forever changed after a pilgrimage to Medjugorje; he prayed the rosary daily. He was a member of Christ the King Parish in Mashpee, and St. John the Evangelist church in Canton, MA. Prior to moving to Mashpee, Paul, along with his wife Mary, contributed many years of service to the Pre-Cana Program at St. John's Parish, guiding and supporting countless couples as they prepared for the sacrament of marriage.

Paul was a member of the Milton Hoosic Club in Canton and a founding member of the No-Name Golf League at the Brookmeadow Golf Club. Paul was extremely proud of the 3 holes-in-one he achieved. Although his macular degeneration progressed steadily, after hitting his last hole-in-one at Holly Ridge CC, his friends joked that they would no longer help him line up his feet when he teed off.

Paul leaves behind many dear friends, including Gary Grillo, long-time friend and golf buddy. He is also survived by numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Visiting hours at the Dockray & Thomas Funeral Home 455 Washington St. Canton Tuesday March 24th from 4:00 to 7:00 pm. Funeral Mass at St. Oscar Romero Church, Canton Wednesday morning March 25th at 11:00. Burial St. Joseph's Cemetery, W. Roxbury.
