Nancy Vlaz (nee Polglase) a resident of Washington Township since 1972, passed away peacefully on November 22,2025 at Corewell Troy Hospital. Nancy was born in Detroit, Michigan on August 4, 1938 to Kenneth and Donna Polglase. She is survived by her devoted husband of 65 years, James (JD) Vlaz. and her two children Richard (Doris) Vlaz of Oxford, MI and Holly (Chet) Bernotaitis of Washington, MI. Also survived by 5 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.
Nancy grew up in Detroit and graduated from Cooley High School in 1956. Her passion in her early years was figure skating, and she and her sister were members of the Detroit Skating Club where she performed and made wonderful friends. Nancy then went on to attend Michigan State University where she met her husband and married in 1959 before earning a Bachelor of Science in Education in 1960.
Nancy devoted her life to being a mother and grandmother. Throughout her life, she also enjoyed working as a Librarian at Henry Ford Hospital and as a substitute Librarian for Romeo Community Schools. She volunteered regularly at Powell Middle School library for the 6 years her children attended the school. Spending time with her family is what Nancy loved the most. She also enjoyed camping, reading, making handmade cards for loved ones and corresponding with family and friends. She was a loving and giving mother/ grandmother who will be greatly missed.
Nancy was preceded in death by her parents, Kenneth and Donna Polglase and her sister Dawn Carriere. No service is scheduled but her family will have a private celebration of her life.
