Nancy Webster

Nancy Egan Webster, age 93, passed away peacefully on October 3, 2025, with family by her side. Nancy was born on October 25, 1931, and was raised in Ithaca, New York.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 68 years, John G. Webster; her parents, William M. Egan and Anna B. (Hennessey) Egan; her brothers, John R. Egan and William M. Egan; her granddaughters Eidan Webster Bray and Naomi Pomeroy; and her great-granddaughter Imogen Nora Bray.

Nancy is survived by her four children: Paul Webster (Nora) of Portland, OR; Robin Minton (Michael) of Hauula, HI; Mark Webster (Linda) of Fitchburg, WI; and Lark Ryan (John Manns) of Portland, OR. She is also survived by her grandchildren: Kyle Webster of Portland, OR (and his children’s mother, Geneva Chao (Gerard Falla), of Los Angeles, CA); Moana (Isaac) Meadow of Sebastopol, CA; Lea Minton of Rochester, MN; Trevor (Anna) Minton of El Sobrante, CA; Joel (Michelle) Webster of Verona, WI; and Rachael (Jeremy) Favors of Madison, WI.

Her ten great-grandchildren include Laurens, Verena, and The’lo Chao of Los Angeles, CA; Isabel and Chloe Webster of Verona, WI; Spring Meadow of Sebastopol, CA; Gemma Bray of New York, NY; Elena and Hazel Minton of El Sobrante CA, and Cameren Favors of Madison, WI.

Nancy was born and raised in Ithaca, New York. After graduating from high school, she attended Cornell University, where she was a proud member of the Pi Beta Phi sorority. It was there that she met the love of her life, John.

Following graduation, John was awarded a Fulbright Grant to Germany, while Nancy was granted a fellowship to Whittier College in California, where she earned her Master’s Degree in Education. After a year apart, they reunited and were married on December 27, 1954, in Nancy’s hometown of Ithaca, New York.

Together, they lived in many areas of the United States, including Arcadia, California; Seattle, Washington; Palm Bay, Florida; Lexington, Massachusetts; Stone Ridge, New York; and Rochester, New York. Each move brought new experiences, friendships, and opportunities that enriched their family’s life and reflected Nancy’s adaptable, adventurous spirit.

The Websters made one final move to Madison, Wisconsin, in the mid-1960s, when John accepted a position in the University of Wisconsin–Madison where he taught Biomedical Engineering. They fell in love with Madison and made it their permanent home.

Nancy, who held both M.Ed. and M.S. degrees, was an active lifelong participant in and supporter of educational and cultural pursuits. She deeply valued learning and community involvement. Nancy enjoyed teaching Special Education in the Madison Public Schools and was a proud participant in the Elvehjem (now Chazen) Museum of Art Docent Program, Attic Angels, University League, and the First Unitarian Society.

Nancy’s intellectual curiosity and zest for life shone through in everything she did. She found great joy in art, music, literature, history, nature, extensive travels with John, and delighted in entertaining international guests. She contributed her time and talents to many boards and community projects, forming lasting friendships along the way.

Above all, Nancy’s deep love for her family brought her immense joy throughout her life. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who found happiness in the company and accomplishments of those she loved. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

A visitation will be held on Sunday, October 26 at Oakwood Village-Resurrection Chapel, 6205 Mineral Point Rd from 2 pm until the time of Nancy's Celebration of Life at 3 pm.

There will be a private family burial in Nantucket, MA
