Nancy Wierzchowski Obituary

Publish in a newspaper

Nancy Louise Wierzchowski, age 78, of Erie, passed away Sunday, September 28, 2025 at home surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Erie on June 18, 1947, daughter of the late Glenn and Mary Micale Peterson.

Nancy was a proud graduate of East High School. During her school years, she performed Swedish Dancing and even traveled to Sweden for a month, where she had the honor of dancing for the King. After graduation, she began her career at General Telephone as an operator supervisor. On November 6, 1971, Nancy married the love of her life, David, and together they built a family. Over the years, she also worked part-time at Erie Insurance and later as a bookkeeper at Frank's Cleaners.

Nancy found joy in gardening, family vacations, and the occasional trip to the casino. To David, she was the one he was always meant to find. She was selfless, hardworking, a steady listener, and the one who kept him grounded. Family was Nancy's greatest priority; she always put their needs above her own. Her home was a gathering place for everyone, a true home base where love and laughter were always present.

She never missed her grandchildren's school or sporting events and was always ready to babysit at a moment's notice. Some of her happiest times were spent with her children, grandchildren, and sisters around the round table, laughing and cackling together. For Nancy, happiness was simple: as long as her family was happy, she was too.

Nancy is survived by her loving husband, David J. Wierzchowski; three children, LeAnn (Greg) Murray, David M. (Melinda) Wierzchowski and Lori (Chris) Kozik; eight grandchildren, Abby Murray, Emma Murray, Olivia Murray, Cooper Wierzchowski, Savannah Wierzchowski, Meghan Kozik, Ben Kozik and Tyler Kozik; two sisters, Kathy (Matthew) Malinowski and Sue Pancurak; two brothers-in-law, Stan Shelly (Nollie) and Steve Szymanski; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her twin sister at birth, Sally Peterson; and sisters-in-law, Betty Arnold, Dorothy Szymanski and Margie Kinem.

Nancy's family would like to thank the staffs at UPMC Hillman Cancer Center Pittsburgh and Shadyside Hospital for their loving care.

Friends may call at the Dusckas Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., 2607 Buffalo Rd., on Friday, October 3rd, from 3 to 7 pm and are invited to attend a Funeral Service there on Saturday, October 4th, at 10 am conducted by Rev. Michael DeMartinis. Entombment will follow at Calvary Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude’s Place, Memphis, TN 38101.
