Nancy Wilson Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Edmonds & Evans Funeral Homes - Chesterton Chapel on Apr. 28, 2025.
Nancy Kay Wilson (Lindahl), age 73, of Chesterton, Indiana, passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, March 5, 2025, after a long and hard 2-year battle with cancer. She was surrounded by the love of her family, and her passing marks the end of an extraordinary life filled with kindness, love, and selflessness.Born on May 30, 1951, in Valparaiso, Indiana, to Joan and Allen Lindahl, Nancy was a lifelong resident of Chesterton. She married the love of her life and best friend, Michael Patrick Wilson, on October 9, 1976, and they enjoyed 44 wonderful years together before his passing. Nancy was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Michael, and her parents, Joan and Allen Lindahl.Nancy was a devoted mother to her daughter, Lindsey Hahn (Wilson) and her son-in-law Leigh Hahn. Nancy was an extremely proud grandmother to three grandchildren, Lauryn (18), Lacey (13), and Luca (11). Her grandkids were the light of her life bringing her so much joy! She also leaves behind one brother, Al Lindahl, and her sister-in-law, Christine Lindahl, along with many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, and dear friends who were fortunate to know and love her.A graduate of Jackson High School Class of 1969, Nancys early career saw her serving the community as a police department employee in Valparaiso. In 1976, she began a career as a court reporter with the Porter County Government as one of the founding sta members during the origin and opening of Superior Court #4 in Valparaiso. After 20 years, she hung up her legal hat in search of a new challenge and enrolled in Valparaiso University where she obtained a degree in Exercise Science. While at the university, Nancy gained the honor of being inducted to the Alpha Lambda Delta honor society for freshman, followed by induction into Alpha Sigma Lambda. Upon graduation from VU, Nancy continued her education at Purdue Northwest where she obtained a degree in Registered Nursing. This is where she found her true passion and calling in life! Upon graduation, Nancy worked as a telemetry nurse at St. Mary Medical Center in Hobart, later transitioning to hospice nursing with Dunes Hospice. The sta at Dunes were much more than simply coworkers to her, they became family, oering her the same love and care that she gave so freely to others in her lifetime.Beyond her professional accomplishments, Nancy was a woman of many passions. She was an avid fitness enthusiast, frequently found hiking the Indiana Dunes, biking around town, running, and attending local fitness classes. She loved tending to her beautiful flower garden and took pride in creating a tranquil retreat around her pool. A talented cook, Nancy won the national Miss Betty Crocker award at the age of 16 and continued to delight family and friends with delicious meals and fresh-baked treats throughout her life. Her home was always warm and welcoming with the smell of vanilla and a pot of fresh coee brewing. It was a true reflection of her warm and inviting spirit. Nancys love for animals was deep, particularly for cats, dogs and birds. She had a special place in her heart for injured animals and those without a home, and would frequently take in any neighborhood strays (and occasionally wild animals and birds) to nurse them back to health. She was also a world traveler, embracing new adventures wherever they took her, although she always had a special fondness for warm destinations.Nancy will be deeply missed by all who knew her. Her presence was like perfectly aged champagne - bubbly, sweet, classy, and wonderful in every situation. She was a light in the lives of all who met her, leaving behind a legacy of optimism, warmth, and selflessness. She will forever be remembered as a loving mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, friend, and nurse - a woman who gave of herself wholeheartedly, always putting others first, and spreading joy wherever she went.A memorial visitation and service will be held in honor of Nancys life on Wednesday, March 12, 2025 from 5-7pm at Edmonds and Evans Funeral Home, 517 Broadway, Chesterton, Indiana. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to Dunes Hospice, 4711 Evans Ave., Valparaiso, IN 46383, or at duneshospicellc.com/donate, whose care and compassion she cherished in her final days.Rest in peace, Nancy.
