Naomi Moddrell Obituary
January 1, 2022
Wichita, Kansas - Naomi Jean Moddrell, died on January 1, 2022. She was 92. Spending summers at her grandparents' farm in Central Kansas, Jean would graduate from Hutchinson High School, attend Kansas State University and join Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority. She would marry Don Williams and have two children: Jeff and Nancy. Widowed early in marriage, she returned to Wichita and would remarry Joe Moddrell, Jr. also with two children: Randy and Kathy. Outside of being a homemaker, Jean established a needlepoint shop, spent time with the Junior League, and was a puppeteer for a local kids TV program. Jean's life was filled with friends, family, and time spent at Grand Lake. Preceded in death by her parents, Gus and Pearl; brother, Virgil; husband, Joe; and step-son, Randy. Survived by son, Jeff; daughter, Nancy; step-daughter, Kathy; grandchildren, James, Peter and Marie; and great-granddaughter, Ellanor. A private ceremony will be held at Old Mission Mausoleum. A memorial has been established with St. Stephen's Episcopal Church, 7404 E. Killarney Pl., Wichita, KS 67206. Services in care of Downing & Lahey East Mortuary. A classmate of mine sent me this notice of Naomi Jean. Naomi sounds like such a lovely woman and mother who meant so much to so many.
I was born in Lyons, Ks and my Grandparents were Lester & RosaDell Moddrell, I know we are related.
I was touched & moved from Edward Blincoe´s memory and felt compelled to respond.
Sending my sympathy to all the Moddrell´s and extended family.

My mother and dad introduced Jeannie and Joe. Mom grew up in Hutch with Jeannie and Dad was Joe´s college roommate. We´d often spend Christmas or Thanksgiving at the Moddrell´s.
We´d sing around the piano with Grammy and Aunt Frida playing strider flourishes and do all the festive seasonal tunes. It was a candlelight serenade of off tune singers with full stomachs and happy hearts. I am now 70. Those memories have kept me warm and grateful every day of my life.
