Nathan D. Miller, age 64 died on May 21, 2024. Born March 8, 1960, to Ervin and Lydia (Raber) Miller. Married Denise Hostetler on November 27, 1982. Had 3 children Katie (Tony) Celaya, Samuel (LaTasha), and Keturah. One grandson Archer David Miller. Two step grandsons Evan Jackson and James Anthony. One sister Sara, three brothers Morris, Norman, Lewis.
The above is the obituary Nate wrote for himself in true Nate fashion (short, sweet, and to the point), and despite wanting to respect his wishes and share what he wrote, we feel it is incomplete.
Nate was never one for being publicly acknowledged and is probably screaming for us to sit down and just let it go from heaven. But if there's one thing he definitely taught us is how to be stubborn in whatever we believed in, and we believe in honoring and celebrating his life with his friends, family, and community.
The outpour of love we as Nate's family have received truly showed us just how successful he was in leaving a positive impact on this world. Although he wasn't without his demons to battle, he fought them well with acts of service, projects, music, debates, and adventures. If he wasn't working on the 7-year-long porch project, he was cutting wood to sell and if he hadn't fallen out of a tree, he'd grab his family for an adventure to get ice cream. Saturdays would be taken up by getting up at the butt-crack of dawn to get breakfast in Holmes County, go to an auction to buy some unnecessary equipment that didn't quite work, and then take all the back roads to try and get lost but never succeeded.
His address may have been Louisville but he could always be found in Hartville either getting coffee at McDonald's or the Hartville Flea Market with the guys to discuss "solving all the world's problems" or working on projects for friends. He cared for the Village of Hartville like extended family and not just because everyone's related anyways.
Nate loved spending time reading The Budget to whatever victim was around at the time – letting us kids know how behind we were in not getting him the 15 grandchildren he requested - reading the obituary's that listed how many children and grandchildren the person had and told us to "step it up."
Nate was so excited for retirement, not to be able to relax, but to spend as much time as possible with his pride and joy – his grandson, Archer. He learned quickly that he wasn't as young as his mind thought he was when he had to keep up with a 7-year-old full-time.
Nate and Archer were the best of friends, Nate loved children and was overjoyed to have a grandson and could never spend enough time with him. They both would lite up when they'd see each other and even if Nate had no clue what Archer was talking about he would listen with all his attention. His special bond with his grandson was always just the proof that he was a big kid at heart.
We ask that you come share memories of him to help fill our hearts. If you cannot make it in person or think of things later, please do not hesitate to reach out to let us know.
In Nate's memory we request you help fight depression and darkness in this world by sharing what light you have with a neighbor – take a neighbor without a car grocery shopping, go out to breakfast with your family/friends, buy a round of McDonald's coffee for the guys, or just an act of kindness towards a stranger. Nate was known for his desire to help anyone in any way he could and continuing that mentality in this world is the best way we can honor how blessed we were to have known him.
Romans 12: 9-10;16-18: Let love be genuine. Abhor what is evil; hold fast to what is good. Love one another with brotherly affection. Outdo one another in showing honor; Do not be haughty, but associate with the lowly. Never be wise in your own sight. Repay no one evil for evil, but give thought to do what is honorable in the sight of all. If possible, so far as it depends on you, live peaceably with all.
Calling hours and celebration of life open house will be at Bethany Mennonite Church, May 30, 2024, from 3-6 PM. Celebration of Life service will begin at 6 PM in the church.
