Nathan "Nate" Bond Sheriff, 86, of
Westminster, South Carolina, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully on Monday, September 8, 2025, at the Richard M. Campbell Veterans Nursing Home in Anderson, surrounded by his family.
Born in Oconee County on November 3, 1938, Nate was the son of the late Robert Fred Sheriff and Nellie Mae Keasler Sheriff. He retired from Duke Power after many years of dedicated service. Nate was active in his community, serving as a longtime volunteer with the United Way, where he was honored with the Volunteer of the Year Award. He was a proud member of the Seneca Masonic Lodge #185, served faithfully in the Army Reserve for over 30 years, and was a member of the Walhalla American Legion Post 124. A devoted member of Hepsibah Baptist Church, Nate served in many roles and was also active with the Silver Warriors. He had a lifelong passion for coaching and playing softball, and was admired for his dedication both on and off the field. He also enjoyed building, gardening, and farming, and was known for his strong work ethic and generous heart.
Nate is survived by his beloved wife, Martha Jean Buff Sheriff of 62 years of marriage; his children, Todd Sheriff of Seneca, Tina Sheriff Middleton (Chuck) of West Union, Timothy "Tim" Sheriff (Anna) of West Union, and Terry Sheriff of Bluffton; grandchildren, Rob Middleton (Sara), Britton Middleton Bideau (Paul), Parker Sheriff (Kansas), Olivia Hope Sheriff, Andy Sheriff, and Emmie Sheriff; and two great-grandchildren, Charlie Middleton and James Middleton. He is also survived by his siblings, Hoyt "Ed" Sheriff (Martha) of Westminster, Scoot Sheriff (Linda) of Westminster, Lynn K. Sheriff (Louise) of Walhalla, and Marsh Ann Sheriff of Westminster; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his siblings, Lamar "Pete" Sheriff and Carolyn "Cac" A. Sheriff, and one great grandchild.
A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, September 12, 2025, at Hepsibah Baptist Church. A private burial to take place at M.J. Dolly Cooper Veterans Cemetery, with military honors at a later date. The family will receive friends from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m., Thursday, September 11, 2025, at Sandifer Funeral Home.
