Nate was truly kind, and I will always remember and appreciate how he took the time to teach me how to use the printer, CNC and forklift, it meant a lot. Whenever I see my doll, I think of you and the 3D Tesla portrait you gifted me. Those moments now feel like memories that will last forever.
I still can´t believe you are gone. May your soul rest in perfect peace.

Nate was the best. UD will not be the same without him. A genuinely awesome person.

Nate left an incredible impact on each and every one of his grad students. We grew so much because of him, and we are so torn knowing that he is gone too soon. My heart goes out to his beautiful family. His legacy and memory will never fade.

It is rare that I have a photo with Nate Sherman in it, yet, he is in the background of every image I have ever taken in the Department of Art and Design at UD. Every patched wall, mounted projector, stored camera, repaired studio, and freshly prepared office bears his quiet (and not so quiet) handiwork. Nate supported every one of my video students through their installation projects, patiently teaching them how to handle grip equipment safely and confidently. He did it all with humor, wit (often delightfully snarky), and an easy smile. I can´t imagine the halls of the art buildings without him there. I worked with him for about 16 years. He was the first person to greet me when I arrived on campus in 2009 looking for my office. Miss you Nate!

Nate was such a positive presence in my life. The first time we met was when he taught me to drive the forklift.
It was a long day, and I was the last person to go. For everyone that went, he would ask "are you buckled up?" And they would say "yep! Buckled up!"
We were just about to finish the course when he looked down, then looked back up at me and asked "have you been unbuckled this whole time?" I looked down and looked back up at him and we both just burst out in laughter.
It was my first year in the grad program and it felt like I couldn´t fully be myself. But Nate showed me in that moment that even if I messed up, we could laugh about it together.
Ever since that day, and even now coming back to the school as a lecturer, seeing Nate has only ever brought big smiles and big hugs and asking how we´re doing and making jokes. I will forever be grateful for the positive change Nate has brought to my life, and will continue to bring his positivity to my students, friends, and loved ones.
I´ve attached a photo of his collection of dried oranges from studio clean-ups. It´s another favorite memory I hold so dear. Thank you for your kindness, laughter, joy, and honesty, Nate. You will be beyond missed and forever remembered.
