Nathan Van Burley

Nathan Van Burley of Hobe Sound, Florida, formerly of Cedar Springs, Michigan, passed from his earthly life on Friday, March 27, 2026, at the age of 82. Born to the late Otis and Blanche Burley of Holton, Michigan, on December 14, 1943, Nathan was the tenth of twelve children.

Nathan graduated from Holton High School in 1962 and attended Spring Arbor College. In 1964, he married the love of his life, Alberta LaRae Black, who survives in Hobe Sound. Three sons were born to their union. Nathan was a committed father and provider. After a lengthy career, Nathan retired from Haworth Incorporated in Holland, Michigan.

Nathan was a fervent follower of Christ. He was a member of the Greenville Bible Methodist Church in Greenville, Michigan, and attended Hobe Sound Bible Church in Hobe Sound. While in Michigan, Nathan gave much of his personal time and resources to help others come to know the Lord and become established in faith. During his retirement years in Florida, he volunteered with Hobe Sound Ministries. Nathan's hobbies included hunting, fishing, playing board games, hosting friends and family around a roaring bonfire, and following Michigan State University athletics. Second only to his relationship with the Lord, Nathan's family was the highlight of his life. His pride and love for them was evident to all who knew him.

Nathan is survived by his children - Eugene L. Burley (Tina), Gregory N. Burley (Stephanie), Mark A. Burley (Jana); siblings – Marlene (Duane) Hudson, Joy (Al) Owens, Cindy (Gary) Hunter; in-laws – Jim (Dawn) Black, Melvin (Joyce) Black, and Ronald Black; grandchildren – Amanda (Scott) Matson, Harmony (Chris) Funk, Kristen Burley, N. Ryan (Macaylan) Burley, Evan Burley, Kaitlynn Burley, Allison Burley, Khara (Cameron) Going, Kelsey (Josh) Muse, Kaden Burley, Karson Burley; great-grandchildren – Emma Matson, Maverick Funk, Gatlin Funk, Colt Funk, Charlotte Burley, Madilynn Going, and Molly Muse.

Nathan was preceded in death by siblings Sarah (George) Parsons, Steven (Judy) Burley, Stanley Burley, Art Burley, Dave Burley, Irene (Red) Perysian, Alice (Buck) Houghton, and Anita Lyons.

A memorial service will be held at Pilgrim Bible Church in Cedar Springs, Michigan, Saturday, April 11, 2026, at 11 a.m. with Rev. Evan Burley officiating. The family will receive friends from 9:30a.m. until 11a.m.
