In Loving Memory of Nathaniel Gabriel Sr.
February 19, 1942 – April 5,2025
With deep love and heartfelt sorrow, we announce the passing of our beloved Nathaniel Gabriel Sr., who was called home to be with the Lord at the age of 83 on April 5,2025.
Nathaniel was born on February 19, 1942, in Oroville, California, to Katherine and Barney Gabriel. From a young age, he was deeply rooted in faith, raised in a family that kept God first and nurtured his spiritual foundation. He attended Oroville High School and soon after answered his calling as an ordained minister, dedicating his life to walking in faith and leading others toward the light of God.
A proud U.S. Army veteran, Nathaniel served his country with strength and honor. He later devoted himself to supporting his family's legacy, working for Yellow Cab Co., Oroville Bus Lines, and the well-loved family establishment, Scruggs & Meaders, which later became Barney's.
Nathaniel's vibrant spirit extended far beyond work and service. He had a deep passion for drag racing and was known for his daring drive on the racetrack. But his heart truly belonged to music. A gifted saxophonist and soulful vocalist, he formed and led the band "Nate and the Velvatones," sharing his powerful gift with the world and bringing joy to all who heard him play.
In the later years of his life, Nathaniel dedicated himself wholly to studying the Word of God and caring for his family. He became the family's prayer warrior-steadfast, faithful, and always ready to lift others up in prayer. His love for his wife, children, grandchildren, and extended family never wavered. He gave freely, loved unconditionally, and stood as a pillar of strength and warmth.
Nathaniel was welcomed into Heaven by his loving parents Katherine and Barney Gabriel, his precious daughter Marnail Gabriel, his sister Christine Gabriel Campbell, and his brother Barney Joseph Gabriel.
He leaves behind a legacy of love, faith, and light. Mourning his passing are his devoted wife, Patricia Gabriel; his brother David Gabriel; his children Paige Gabriel Campbell and son-in-law Dequarius Campbell, Rebecca Gabriel, Rachael Gabriel Gaston and son-in-law Patrick Gaston, Christina Gabriel Ayola and son-in-law Steve Ayola, Monique Gabriel, Yvonne Terrell, Denise Ball, Ashley Sant, and his only son, Nathaniel Gabriel Jr. He is also survived by 12 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren, and 4 great-great-grandchildren.
Nathaniel's energy was truly a blessing to be around-joyful, goofy, and always full of life. His presence could light up any room, and his heart touched the lives of all who had the honor of knowing him. He was love in its purest form, and his legacy will live on in every prayer, every song, and every cherished memory.
Rest well, Nathaniel Gabriel. Your song plays on in our hearts
