Nathaniel "Nate" Standing

Nathaniel "Nate" Standing, of Detroit, Michigan, formerly of Oklahoma and Florida, passed away on October 29, 2025. Born in Tulsa, Oklahoma on May 29, 1992, Nate moved to Florida at a young age and, with an adventurous spirit, spent years traveling the country-by train-collecting stories, friendships, and hard-earned wisdom along the way.
In 2021, Nate put down roots in Detroit and began a dedicated sobriety journey through the R.O.P.E Program and the Jefferson House. He quickly became a steady presence in the recovery community, serving as Health & Safety Manager for the Jefferson House and proudly passing his certification to be a peer counselor shortly before his death. Nate previously trained as a baker at On the Rise, where his talent in the kitchen was unmistakable.
At home, Nate found joy in simple, beautiful things. He tended flowers and a thriving garden of fresh herbs and spices, often stepping outside to snip ingredients for whatever he was cooking or baking. He crafted his own hot sauces from the garden's bounty, and a from-scratch cheesecake was never a problem for him-just another chance to share something sweet with the people he loved. His faithful German shepherd, Ruby, was never far from his side.
On September 11, 2025, Nate married the love of his life, Jennifer "Jenn" Parr. Together they were inseparable-concert companions, fearless samplers of "any and every" ethnic food, and explorers who loved finding new places and never eating at the same spot twice. Nate was a kind, gentle, and deeply caring husband whose steady encouragement and quick smile made every day brighter for Jenn and for countless friends in recovery.
Nate is survived by his wife, Jennifer Parr Standing; his sisters, Jasmine and Antoinette; and his beloved dog, Ruby.
Nate will lie instate on Saturday, November 8 from 9:30 am until the time of his funeral Mass at 10 am at Nativity of our Lord Church, 5900 McClellan Street, Detroit.
Nate's journey-restless, resilient, and ultimately rooted in service-changed lives. His legacy lives on in gardens that keep growing, kitchens that stay warm, and in the recovery community he loved so well.
