Nathaniel Watson Obituary

Published by Legacy on Mar. 5, 2026.
Nathaniel "Sonny" Watson was born on June 1, 1948, in Sumter, SC to the late Lewis Welton Wright and Janie Mae Watson.

Sonny received his early education at Lincoln Park Academy in Fort Pierce, FL and later attended Harlem Academy in Clewiston, FL. He eventually moved to Philadelphia, where he met and married the love of his life, Elaine Watson (who preceded him in death).

Sonny had a joyful spirit and a deep love for life. He enjoyed cooking, dancing, singing, and most of all, spending time with his family and friends with a cold beer in hand. His warmth, laughter, and presence will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

On Sunday, March 1, 2026, Sonny gained his wings and entered eternal rest. He is now reunited in God's loving arms with his parents, Lewis Welton Wright and Janie Mae Watson; his sisters, Earnestine Watson and Celestine James; his aunts, Julia Taylor, Mary Commander, and Silba Watson; his uncle, Ramson Watson Jr.; and his special cousin, Thelma Watson.

Sonny's life and legacy will forever be cherished by his loving children, Charlene Watson (George Prime) and Deirdra Rockemore; his beloved grandchildren, Cartier Scott (Ashley) and Kaylee Overby; his nephews, Calvin (Tiffany) Cobbs, Corey White (Raquel Camejo), Terik (Dawanda) Cosby, Berkely James Jr., Henry James, and Tony James; and his nieces, Teresa Wells and Connie James, along with a host of other relatives and dear friends.
