Natividad Ruiz, beloved father, friend, and community pillar, passed away peacefully, leaving behind a legacy of love, pride, and service. Born on December 25, 1935, in Yabucoa, Puerto Rico, Natividad brought the warmth and resilience of his island roots to the Waukegan, Illinois area, where he lived for many decades.
Early in life Natividad owned and operated his own landscaping business serving the North Shore area of northeastern Illinois. He was a skilled gardener, passionate about his work, and was proud of his award-winning rose gardens admired by many.
A proud Puerto Rican and devoted member of the Puerto Rican Society of Waukegan, Natividad was known for his unwavering commitment to preserving and celebrating his heritage. As a member of the Puerto Rican Society for nearly 50 years he served in various organizational offices, including Secretary, Treasurer, Vice President, and President. Whether organizing cultural events, mentoring younger generations, or simply sharing stories of Puerto Rico, he embodied the spirit of community. His presence was a constant source of strength and joy to all who knew him.
Natividad's life was marked by quiet generosity, deep wisdom, and a contagious sense of humor. He had a gift for making people feel seen and heard, and his legacy lives on in the hearts of those he touched.
Natividad loved his family dearly, especially his grandchildren and one great grandchild. They were the love of his life. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and the entire Lake County community. Though he has departed this world, his memory will continue to inspire unity, pride, service, and love for Puerto Rican culture.
He is survived by his spouse of 58 years Elba Ruiz; sons Anthony (Charlotte) Ruiz and Miguel (Carolyn) Ruiz; daughters Lydia Ruiz and Lourdes Harrington; grandchildren Daniel, Carmen, Anya, Nydia, Manuel, Loureann, Victor, Meagan, Bianca, Vianka, Triston, Gabriel, Sire, and Groa; great grandchild Leilani; daughter in law Ditte Marie; extended family and countless friends. He is preceded in death by his sons Daniel Ruiz and Dennis Ruiz.
