Ned Muffley Obituary

Ned Elwood Muffley, age 94, passed away on Friday, October 17, 2025, in Bethesda, Maryland. He was born on October 26, 1930, in Lebanon , Pennsylvania. He was the son of the late Elwood Muffley and Grace Gorton (nee Huff).

Ned served his country in the United States Navy for 30 honorable years, graduating from the United States Naval Academy in 1952. He served in the Korean and Vietnam wars, and in Alaska, before becoming the Conductor of the Navy Band in 1972. Ned was a pioneer of his time, and the first Conductor of the Navy Band that promoted the hiring of women.

Ned spent decades with Educational Funding Company of Bethesda, Maryland, where it is said he brought joy and leadership to every role he held. He brought laughter and friendship to those he worked with.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his son, Rick Muffley, and his sister, Kathryn Hanstein (nee Muffley). Ned is remembered by friends who deeply miss him.

Ned is survived by two sons, Adam Muffley and Tye Muffley, both of Maryland; two daughters, Lynn Klimczak of Arizona and Debra Bernhardt of Maryland; one adopted daughter, Mariah Sim, of Virginia; his spouse of 30 years, Jeannette Muffley; 7 grandchildren; and 8 great-grandchildren.

At the family's request there will be no service at this time. We extend our heartfelt sympathies to all who mourn Ned's departure. Ned will be laid to rest at Arlington National Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, we encourage you to honor Ned's legacy of by seeking out new knowledge, pushing beyond the boundaries, and sharing your memories of him with others.

This, we believe, would be the best tribute to his long and impactful life.
