William Muffley Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Pippin Funeral Home - Camden Wyoming on Sep. 26, 2025.
Our beloved husband, father, son, brother, and friend, William (Bill) Raymond Muffley of Camden, DE, formerly of Sayre, PA, earned his angel wings on September 13, 2025, at the age of 73. He passed away peacefully at Bayhealth Kent General Hospital in Dover, DE, surrounded by love.

Bill was born on June 6, 1952, at Tioga General Hospital in Waverly, NY, to William and Barbara (Russell) Muffley. From the very beginning, his life was marked by devotion, adventure, and service. After graduating from Sayre Area High School in 1971, he married the love of his life, Mary (Reese) Muffley, on December 28, 1977 - forever his "Soul and Inspiration." Together, they created a life filled with laughter, family, and unconditional love, sharing 47 extraordinary years.

On January 18, 1972, Bill proudly enlisted in the United States Navy, where he served with distinction for 23 years as a Torpedoman, retiring on March 31, 1995, with the rank of Senior Chief. Following his military career, he continued a life of service and dedication, working as a rural mail carrier with the United States Postal Service and later as a security guard at the VA Clinic in Sayre, PA. He also devoted his time to the Disabled American Veterans Organization, serving as both an advocate and processor of benefits applications, where he faithfully assisted fellow veterans in securing the benefits they had honorably earned and rightfully deserved.

Bill was a man of many passions. He loved NASCAR, cheered faithfully for the New Orleans Saints, and spent countless hours bird watching, hunting, tinkering with cars and scooters, and exploring state parks. Above all, he loved being a father, always present to guide and encourage his children through life's journey. His devotion to family was his greatest legacy.

He is survived by his devoted wife, Mary Muffley of Camden, DE; his daughter, Stacey (Jason) Walburn of Elmira, NY; his son, William "Bill" Muffley of Wyoming, DE; his mother, Barbara Muffley of Athens, PA; his sister, Eva Bobb of Sayre, PA; his brother-in-law, Bob Denno of Waverly, NY; his sisters-in-law, Anita (Don) of Ocean Springs, MS, and CeCe Robb of VA; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. His presence will be deeply missed and his memory forever cherished.

Bill was welcomed into heaven by his father, William Muffley; sister, Barbara Denno; and brother-in-law, Richard Bobb.

A Celebration of Life Mass will be held at the Church of the Epiphany in Sayre, PA. Bill will be laid to rest with military honors at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Cemetery in Ridgebury, PA. Following the burial, family and friends are invited to a luncheon at the Church of the Epiphany church hall. The date and time will be announced at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that memorial contributions be made to the Disabled American Veterans Organization in Bill's honor, carrying forward his legacy of service to others.

We will hold you close within our hearts, for that is where you will always be - to walk beside us and guide us through all our tomorrows, until we meet again.
