Neil Flood Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Shorey-Nichols Funeral Home & Crematory Services, Pittsfield on Apr. 11, 2024.
BURNHAM- Neil Lester Flood, age 81, died in the early morning of April 9, 2024, with his wife of 61 years by his side. Neil's last wishes were to die at home, for family and friends to gather to celebrate his life, and to have his ashes scattered on his family homestead in Burnham, where he had lived his whole life.
He was born on March 11, 1943, in Hartland, Maine. He attended Reynolds School until the 8th grade, leaving to enter the workforce. Neil worked for over twenty years as a supervisor at the Irving Tannery until he retired for medical reasons.
He met his true love, Hilda, while cruising in his red Chevy convertible. He offered Hilda and her friend a ride, but only if Hilda sat in the middle. They were married on March 11, 1964. Together they had two sons and a daughter. They celebrated their 25th and 50th wedding anniversaries with family and friends.
Neil was kind and straightforward. He loved his family and his church family. He was often quiet while taking everything in, he used few words but meant what he said, and made an effort to say heartfelt important things. He enjoyed reading and watching Westerns on TV. He believed in the work, values, and tradition of AA and celebrated his sobriety for over 30 years. He was a deacon at the Winnecook Christian church where he also facilitated the 12-step meetings for many years.
He is survived by his wife, Hilda Flood; his son Wayne Flood and partner Dawn West; his daughter Laurie Flood-Jensen and her husband, Jim Jensen; his grandchildren: Nicki Luce, Jada Jensen, and James Jensen; his sister, Rita Bubar; nephew, Bill Dunton; great nephew and niece, Indy Dunton and Shelby Robichaud and husband Mike; his brothers-in-law: Bruce and Darlene Cook, Billy and Donna Cook, and Norman Dow; several nephews and nieces; and many beloved cousins.
He was predeceased by his father and mother, Lester and Carmelita Flood; his son, Michael Flood; his grandson, Sean Flood; his brothers-in-law: Frank Cook, Richard and Florence Cook, Lenny and Betty Cook, and John Cook; and sisters-in-law: Stella Dow, Betty Vaughn, and Leola and Norman McDonald.
Please join us in celebrating Neil Lester Flood at 11 a.m., Saturday, April 27, 2024, at the Winnecook Christian Church, Chapel Lane, Burnham. There will be a potluck gathering to follow.
