Neil D. Morey, a dedicated member of the Central New York Laborer's Union for 40 years, passed away peacefully at his home on February 15, 2026, at the age of 92. Born on August 9, 1933, Neil was a man of remarkable character and vitality whose impact will be remembered by all who knew him.
Throughout his life, Neil embodied an outgoing and caring spirit, always making it a priority to ensure the well-being of those around him. He was a beloved figure in his community and among friends and family. He took great pride in the legacy he built with his family and through his unwavering commitment to his work with the union.
Neil's interests included his love for the outdoors; he enjoyed hunting and fishing, often spending cherished moments at the hunting camp in North Pharsalia with his sons. Winters were equally special, as he and his loving wife, Jean, would retreat to Florida, relishing the warmth and companionship. His greatest joy came from spending time with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, fostering connections that will span generations.
He was honored to be a charter member of the West Monroe Fire Department, a testament to his willingness to serve and protect his community. Neil's contributions extended beyond his professional life; they were interwoven with his deep familial ties and friendships.
Neil is survived by his children, Debra (Bernard) Gladle, Douglas Morey, Mark (Amy) Morey, Patricia (Brian) Schumaker, and Karen (James) Ackley; along with his 15 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother, Dale (Sue) Morey; and brother-in-law, Donald (Fran) House.
