Nell Caroline Davenport

Rocky Mount – Nell Caroline Griffin Davenport, age 94, passed away on Monday, March 23, 2026. Born in Nash County, NC on November 14, 1931, she was the daughter of the late Richard Taswell Griffin, Jr. and Fidelia Moore Overton Griffin. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Calvin Davenport; her daughter, Martha Carol Davenport; her sisters, Mary Ruth Griffin Williams, Fidelia Faye Griffin Morgan, and Charlotte Griffin Ahalt; and her brothers, Richard Taswell "Dick" Griffin, III, Dr. William Buxton "Bill" Griffin, Sr., John Thomas "Johnny" Griffin, and James Ambler "Jimmy" Griffin.

A woman of great faith, Nell was a long-time member of Red Oak Baptist Church.

A devoted and loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt, and dear friend to many, Nell will be deeply missed and never forgotten.

Nell is survived by her son, Richard Calvin Davenport (Donna) of Red Oak; her daughters, Gaile Davenport Taylor (Roger) of Nashville and Mary Davenport Myrick (Jay) of Littleton; her grandchildren, Carrie Spradley (Paul), Sarah Dixon (Phil), Grey Davenport (Steve), Van Davenport, Haley Day (Wilson), and Hunter Willette (Dylan); her great-grandchildren, Andrew, Phoebe, Matthew, Anna, and Simeon Spradley, Philip, and Cameron Dixon, Ella and Griffin Day, Waylon Dressler, and Millie and Noah Willette; her sisters, Marjorie Griffin Ramsey and Rebecca Griffin Pittman (Jerry); and many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dearest friends.

A Graveside Service to celebrate Nell's life will be held on Sunday, March 29, 2026 at 2:00 PM at Red Oak Baptist Church Cemetery with Rev. Chris Fowler officiating. Visitation with the family will be following the service at the cemetery.
