Nell Reed Obituary

Nell Mundine Reed, age 84, passed away peacefully on February 2, 2026, in Rockport, Texas. She was born on August 11, 1941, to Sherman and Mattie Mundine in Corpus Christi, Texas. On January 14, 1961, at the age of 19, following a whirlwind courtship, she and Allen Ike Reed eloped. The interesting part of their elopement is that Nell returned home to her parents’ house as if nothing had changed… somewhat apprehensive about informing her parents of her and Ike’s nuptials. Following Ike’s passing, Nell remained in Rockport, where she continued living on the land that had been in her family for over 100 years. To know Nell was to love Nell! Once diagnosed with dementia and cancer, Nell remained steadfast to her faith, her mother’s teachings, and her joy in the smallest of life’s things. Nell immortalized K. Armstrong’s quote, “When we focus on our gratitude, the tide of disappointment goes out, and the tide of love rushes in,” throughout her entire life. And it was during this season that the tide of love was ceaseless, much like the waves at Rockport Beach. Before Nell’s illness and the devastating loss of her husband, Ike, and her sister, Sissy Morish, she was highly active. Nell served as the First Baptist Church of Rockport’s secretary for 47 years. Upon her retirement, wherever one saw Nell, one saw Sissy. The two sisters who fought like cats and dogs as children were two peas in a pod as adults. They traveled, shopped, had adventures, and/or dined together daily. In 2019, Nell faced her grief of Sissy’s passing with gratitude; she often spoke about the precious time God allowed her to spend with her sister. These actions epitomize both Nell's inner and outer beauty. She could foresee graciousness amid life’s sorrows and still smile. Nell’s love for rescues and stray furbabies, AKA dogs, in need of loving homes, demonstrated her compassion and enormous heart. When family and friends gathered, they knew a ‘meal on wheels' would be needed for her furbaby at every function. Thus, many kept styrofoam-to-go plates on hand.

Left to honor Nell’s graciousness, compassion, and beauty are her two nephews, Harold Glenn Mundine of Sinton, and Robbie Morish of Converse, and her two nieces, Amy Brennan (Curtice) of Edna and Sherry Williams of Port Lavaca. In addition to her parents, husband, and sister, Nell is preceded in death by her brother, Glenn Mundine; nephew, Jackie Mundine; and niece, Sarah Morish Predom. It is often stated, “There are friends, there is family, and then there are friends that become family.” Keeping this in mind, the family is forever grateful to two angels who loved Nell as a family member and ensured she was well cared for in every way. The family will forever be indebted to Laura and Emily Youngblood, who were genuinely devoted to Nell during this season of her life. May God continually bestow upon them ten fold. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., with family present from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., on Friday, February 6, 2026, at Charlie Marshall Funeral Home in Rockport. Graveside services and burial will be held at Rockport Cemetery on Saturday, February 7, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Humane Society and Adoption Center of Rockport/Fulton, 1308 Myrtle St, Fulton, TX 78358, or First Baptist Church of Rockport, 1515 N Live Oak St, Rockport, TX 78382.
