Nell Ann "Meme" Shepherd (Kriewald), 87, passed away peacefully in her home on March 8, 2025, in Universal City, Texas, surrounded by her loving and devoted family.
Born on June 17, 1937, in San Antonio, Texas, Nell lived a life filled with love, laughter, and adventure. She was the beloved wife of Clifford Dean Shepherd, with whom she shared 64 wonderful years of marriage. Together, they built a beautiful life through Clifford’s military career, traveling and raising their three cherished sons: Michael, Kenneth, and Steven. For the past 56 years, they made their home in Universal City, where Nell retired as a Chief Cashier from the BX at Randolph Air Force Base.
Nell had an extraordinary ability to make everyone she met feel special. Her kindness and care for others were boundless, and her infectious laugh could brighten any room. She embraced life wholeheartedly and always said "yes" to new experiences—whether it was traveling, playing games, gathering with loved ones, or even trying her luck at gambling. Everyone embraced the fact that she was an avid baseball fan of the Yankees and football fan of the Chiefs and it was fun to be around her cheering them on.
She found immense joy in game nights filled with canasta, 66, bridge, pinochle, and dominoes. Some of her most treasured moments were spent working on puzzles with her granddaughters Emilie and Sarah—carefully preserving completed puzzles to admire for just a little longer. Her love extended deeply to her grandchildren: Emilie; Sarah and her husband Jake; Megan and her husband Levi; Taylor and his wife Genevieve; Bryce and her great grandchildren: Parker, Layton, Thelonious and her newest pride and joy, Henry Dean.
Nell is also survived by her sister Fay Fey and her husband Johnny and numerous friends and family. She was preceded in death by her parents Emil and Paula Kriewald.
A Memorial Service will be held on March 20, 2025, at Schertz Funeral Home (2217 FM 3009, Schertz, Texas). Viewing and visitation will take place from 5:00 to 6:00 PM, followed by a memorial celebration from 6:00 to 7:00 PM.
