Nellie Barnwell Gentry, 97, passed away August 5, 2023 at Peak Resources in Graham, NC. She was born on May 12,1926 in Caswell County, NC to Robert Harvey Barnwell and Mary Omie Satterfield Barnwell. She was predeceased by her parents, loving husband of 61 years A. Marshall Gentry, son Hyrum Gentry, daughter Lisa Gentry, brothers Jack, J.C., Banks, James, Ike, Russell, Giles and Roger, and sisters Inez, Mary and Odell.
She is survived by sons Wayne L. Gentry (Gayla) of Raleigh, NC, and Kenneth H. Gentry (Suzanne) of Saffron Walden, England, daughters Melinda G. Wilson (Herbert “Chip”) of Winston-Salem, NC, and D. Jean Gentry of Burlington, NC. She is also survived by eight grandchildren (Jennifer, Drew, David, Beth, Sarah, Katherine, Ryan and Rosie) and nine great grandchildren (Kaiden, Cheyenne, Benjamin, Rowan, Mary, Reid, Lulu, Hannah and Nora) and lots of wonderful nieces and nephews.
Nell enjoyed crocheting, jigsaw puzzles, and card and board games. She was a homemaker, keeping many children who called her “Mama Nell” in her home. She also worked in retail, retiring from Roses Department Store. She was a faithful church member at Kinnett Memorial Baptist Church, Glen Hope Baptist Church and DaySpring Baptist Church.
A service will be held on Wednesday, August 9, 2023 at 11:00AM in the Lowe Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. Larry Redding. The family will receive friends from 9:45-10:45am prior to the service at the funeral home. A graveside service will be held following the service at the Graham Memorial Park.
