Nellie "Lolli" Nieves

With heavy hearts, we announce the sudden passing of Nellie (Lolli) Hernandez-Nieves, 35, at her home, in New Britain, January 9, 2026. Born in Salem, Massachusetts, later moving to Bristol, Connecticut with her mother.

Nellie was a curious and daring, little one. Always finding new silly ways to make everyone smile. She adored animals and music. She could dance to the sounds carried in the wind, never missing a beat. She was funny and loud, and always present. Filled with compassion, and unbiased care for others. Knowing Nellie, was to know the meaning of reliability, acceptance, and strength. Altruistically, determined and willing to help others.

Born with a cardiovascular disease, deemed disabled and unable to live a 'normal,' life, Nellie learned to be a doer, not just a dreamer. For many years, she experienced hunger, faced homelessness, and suffered great loss. Nonetheless, she was tenacious and never quit. Nellie was a young woman who loved fiercely, deeply and unapologetically. And although, weathered by life, the hardship did not define her.

Nellie is survived by her parents Juan Carlos Hernandez and Oneida Correa-Nieves, and Stepfather Luis Correa. Her eldest son Jeremiah Correa, daughter in law Jeynalis and her youngest Andres Candelario. Brothers, Jason Rodriguez. Juan de Dios Hernandez, Matias Hernandez, and Carlos Jose Hernandez. Sisters, Jerica Dunbar, Bobbie, Rodriguez, Helen Hernandez, Scarlet Hernandez, Julie Hernandez, Juliana Hernandez and Lizbeth Hernandez. Two-nieces, and six nephews. Aunt Tina Cunninham, and cousins, Amanda Dominguez, Alexandra Dominguez, Samantha Colon, Yajaira Martinez.

Calling Hours will be on Friday January 23, 2026 from 4:00 PM to 5:45 PM with a Funeral Service immediately following at 5:45 PM at Carlson Funeral Homes, 45 Franklin Square, New Britain, CT 06051.
