Nelson was the son of Charles DesChamps and Lillie Mullis DesChamps. He was a Mason and a member of the NHRA Hall of Fame. He was a trucking company owner.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Karen DesChamps; daughter, Diane Myrick and brother, Charles Wayne DesChamps.
Survived by: daughters Denise (Jim) Spivey of FL, Donna Dilling of FL, and Debbie (Mike) Scott of FL; sisters Nola Ethridge of Cookeville TN, and Connie Brewster of Cookeville TN; 6 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren and special friends: Barry and Jeanette Gore of Cookeville TN;
Visitation will be on Saturday, September 20, 2025 from 11 am to 1 pm at Anderson Upper Cumberland Funeral Home.
Memorial services will be held on Saturday September 20, 2025 at 1:00pm in the chapel of Anderson Upper Cumberland Funeral Home.
Memorial donations may be made to Tannehill Lodge 133 by contacting the funeral home.
