In Loving Memory of Nelson Mark Snyder

March 4, 1943 - January 22, 2026

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Nelson Mark Snyder, who departed this life on January 22, 2026. Born on March 4, 1943, in Rome, New York, Nelson lived a vibrant life defined by curiosity, adventure, and a profound love for the outdoors.

Nelson's formative years in Rome instilled in him a lifelong appreciation for nature. He was an avid hunter and fisherman who found both peace and exhilaration in the woods and on the water. His passion for video games and reading reflected his inquisitive mind and his openness to new experiences at any stage of life.

After graduating from high school, Nelson served in the United States Navy from 1961 to 1967. He was stationed in Morehead City, North Carolina, and assigned to the USS Freemont (APA 44), where he worked as a radio operator supporting both water and air transport. Notably, he and his brother Richard served together during the Cuban Missile Crisis. Nelson's dedication and skill contributed significantly to the safety and success of his fellow service members, and he remained proud of his service throughout his life.

Known for his warm spirit, Nelson was the fun uncle whose favorite niece, Tiffany, treasures memories of their shared love of Star Trek, pheasant hunting adventures, chess lessons, playful games, and their special bond. He cherished time with family and friends, whether deep sea fishing, watching baseball, or simply enjoying their company. Though he did not connect with family daily, Nelson held his loved ones close to his heart and valued those relationships deeply.

In his later years, Nelson resided in Brush Valley, Pennsylvania, with his faithful dog, Shilo, by his side.

Nelson leaves behind a host of friends and family who will forever cherish his memory. His legacy is one of dedication, adventure, and gentle wisdom. He will be dearly missed by all whose lives he touched with his kindness, humor, and strength.

Nelson is survived by his loving son, Mark Allen Snyder. He was the beloved son of Minnie Elizabeth Schaffer Snyder-McMullin and Mark Snyder, and was preceded in death by his brothers, Richard Henry Shaffer and Robert Henry Snyder, and his sister, Patsy Ann Shaffer.

The family extends heartfelt gratitude to Nathan McNutt and Chad Mikesell for their unwavering support and compassionate care.

Per Nelsons wishes there will be a private interment. In lieu of cards and flowers donations can be sent to , Four Footed Friends ,220 Beck Rd Indiana, Pennsylvania 15701 (724)-349-1144

With appreciation and thanks,

Mark Allen Snyder, Loving Son
