Nelson Julio Varona, born on June 26, 1944, in Havana, Cuba, passed away peacefully on July 26, 2024, at the age of 80, surrounded by his loved ones.
Nelson graduated from Miami Senior High School and earned a degree in Aeronautic Mechanics at George T. Baker Technical College. He dedicated over 30 years to the aviation industry. Nelson's passion for helping others touched many lives, making him a role model and a father figure to many. He was always ready to lend a helping hand.
During high school, Nelson met his wife of 59 years, Carol J. Varona. Their inseparable bond led to the creation of a beautiful family. Nelson is survived by his loving wife, Carol, and their six children and spouses: Lisa (Gustavo Jr.), Nelson (Sandra), Laurie, Suelynn, David, and Anthony (Kristina). He is also survived by his seven grandchildren: Kristen, Gustavo III, Antonio, Matthew, Katelyn, Oliver, and Elliot.
A memorial service will be held on August 30, 2024, at 2:00 PM at Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Cemetery, 11411 N.W. 25th Street, Doral, FL 33172.
The family extends their heartfelt thanks to all who loved and cared for Nelson throughout the years. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his honor to the American Cancer Society.
Our Papi will be remembered for his unwavering devotion and endless love for his family, as well as his generosity and kindness. His strength, wisdom, and legacy will continue to inspire future generations. We welcome all who knew him to join in celebrating the life of the man we knew and loved deeply.
