Nelwin LaCasse Richard, 87, passed away peacefully on Saturday, February 28, 2026, surrounded by her loving family. She was born to John and Ludie LaCasse on July 8, 1938, in Frey, Louisiana.
Nelwin graduated from LaGrange High School in 1956. She was a devout Catholic and a lifelong member of St. Margaret Catholic Church, where she served as a choir member for twenty-five years. She was a member of the Altar Society and the Come Lord Jesus prayer group. Nelwin also volunteered at Memorial Hospital's gift shop and was a member of the Legion Auxiliary.
Nelwin enjoyed playing Pokeno and working crossword puzzles, often finding joy in the little moments they brought. She loved reading and going camping, making many special memories along the way. Above all, she treasured the time she spent with her family and friends, who meant everything to her.
Those left to cherish her memory are her children: Vaughn Richard and wife Romona; Gwen Dugas and husband Larry; Jackie Armentor and husband Keith; and Deleen Boudreaux and husband Joe; her grandchildren: Jessica Pousson, Nicholas Richard, Kyle Richard, Amanda Rush, Ashley Dugas, Jacob Dugas, Chad Armentor, Todd Armentor, Chance Boudreaux, and Carley Boudreaux; ten great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her loving husband of 65 years, Eddie Richard.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, March 7, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. at St. Margaret Catholic Church, with Father Troy officiating. Visitation will be held at Johnson Funeral Home from 9:00 a.m. until 12:30 p.m., with a rosary recited at 12:00 p.m. Interment will follow at Consolata Cemetery.
The family would like to give a special thank you to Brandy Spence for her amazing care and dedication to Mrs. Nelwin.
