It is with deep sadness we announce the passing of our loving mother, Nettye Jean Archibald, on Tuesday, October 14, 2025, at the age of 91. She departed this life surrounded by her devoted and loving children. Our mother was known by many as a dedicated mother, grandmother, teacher, mentor, and friend. Her nurturing spirit, unwavering support and boundless love will forever live in the hearts of her children.
Known for her devoted passion for teaching, kindness and the ability to inspire, Jean left a lasting impression on countless students, colleagues and families through her career. Many of her students still kept in touch with her. No Surprise! She never let go of those she cared about in her life.
Jean was born in Baskin, Louisiana, to Reese and Jessie Lott on July 7, 1934. She attended numerous schools throughout her childhood, even riding the school bus with Harold Jenkins later to be known as Conway Twitty, when she attended Tallulah Elementary School. After graduating from Mangham High School, she obtained a degree in Home Economics from Northeast Louisiana College. She continued her education earning a Master's degree some years later.
She married her high school sweetheart, H.G. "Sonny" Anderson. Together they had five children: Beverly, Barbara, Bill, Brenda, and Beth. She retired after twenty-five years in the public school system, but her love for teaching continued at Franklin Academy in Winnsboro, totaling over 50 years of service.
She lived life to the fullest with all her heart and soul that she had within her and then some. She was definitely a doer! In addition to teaching, she also worked as a dispatcher at MDX Trucking Co., in Monroe and later owned Jan-Q Enterprises. This gave her an opportunity to drive cross country in a semi trailer truck. There was no end to her many talents and hobbies. She enjoyed cooking, sewing, reading, gardening, playing cards and her many precious grandchildren.
Mrs. Jean is preceded in death by her parents, the father of her children, Herman G. "Sonny" Anderson, a daughter, Barbara Anderson Ferrington, a sister, Sallie Romo, a granddaughter April Loraine Armstrong, and grandson in law, Edward H. Pete.
She is survived by her children; Beverly Williams and husband Rockie, Brenda Ellington and husband Noble Jr., Carla Beth Anderson and special friend Cliff Mosley, and William Howard Anderson and wife Sandy, her grandchildren; Terra Pete, Trent Williams, Jessica Veuleman, Brooke Norris, Jhanna Edwards, Marriah Adams, Jennie Hayes, Morgan Gallagher, Skye Reynolds, Jon-Reese Armstrong, Alexandra Armstrong, Chris Fortenberry, and Amy Humphries. She also leaves behind 34 great grandchildren, 8 great great grandchildren, a special cousin Betty Pearce, and a host of other extended family members.
Funeral Services for Mrs. Nettye Jean Archibald will be at 3 PM, Saturday, October 18,2025, at Crockett Point Baptist Church. Visitation is from 1PM until 3PM at the church, Bro. Richie Kelly and Bro. Scott Fletcher will be officiating, under the direction of Dennard First National Funeral Home.
Pallbearers will be Jon Reese Armstrong, Rhett Reese Armstrong, Chris Fortenberry, Aiden Hayes, Trent Williams, and Tripp Williams. Honorary Pallbearers will be Mickey Ferrington and Mrs. Jean's great great grandsons.
Although mother's physical presence may no longer grace our lives, her spirit will continue to inspire and uplift us. As a family who she richly blessed, we vow to carry on her legacy. She will be deeply missed by all who were fortunate to know her. Rest in peace, Our dear Mother.
