Nicholas Dutto Obituary

Nicholas Joseph Dutto
08/11/1947 - 10/19/2024
Nicholas Joseph Dutto, aged 77, passed away peacefully on October 19, 2024, in Rohnert Park, with his daughters by his side. Born on August 11, 1947, Nicholas, affectionately known throughout his life for his generous spirit, left a profound impact on his family, friends, and the electrical industry.
After graduating from John O'Connell High School, Nicholas honorably served in the United States Navy (two tours of duty). Following his military service, he embarked on a remarkable career in the electrical industry. In 1981, alongside his partner, David Lindt (retired), he co-founded Metropolitan Electrical Construction, Inc. in San Francisco. His innovative vision and leadership as the Owner, President, and CEO of Metropolitan Electrical Construction Inc. transformed the industry, earning him recognition as a pioneering figure.
Nicholas's life was not solely defined by his professional achievements but equally by his personal joys. He cherished spending time with family and friends, always ensuring those around him felt valued and loved.
He is survived by his daughters, Margaret Dutto (William) and Dena Kennedy (Eric); grandchildren, Tyler Dutto, Autumn Kennedy, and Drew Kennedy; great-grandson, Hayden Dutto; siblings, Joe Dutto, Fred Dutto, and Joanne Ghilardi; as well as nieces, nephews, the Dutto Family, his Metro Family and countless family friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Anne Dutto; and former wife, Rose Dutto.
Respecting his wishes, Nick did not want a traditional service. Instead, a Celebration of Life, organized by his daughters, will be held in the Spring of 2025, honoring his memorable and impactful life (details to follow).

We met him just once, but never forgot him. Fun and generous. Didn't think we'd have so much fun before happy hour at the bar at Alioto's.

My heartfelt sympathies to all of Nicks family. I have never met a nicer person than Nick. He always came to the Dutto family reunions in the hot valley summer heat. He was a valued member of the large Dutto family and was a great example of a man of integrity and honesty. May he rest in peace and know he lived a life well lived.

I am deeply saddened in learning of Nick's passing. We worked together often during my many years with The Shorenstein Company as GM at 555 California Street. Over those years we became good friends and I admired greatly his devotion to fairness and kindness in the way he nurtured his business relationships. We shared many good times and I could always count on Nick when it mattered most. People can have many acquaintances as they travel through life, but it is very rare when an acquaintance becomes a friend. Nick was a valued friend and I am a better person to have known him.

Condolences to the Joe and family. HIs service to his country was exemplary as well as his contributions in the electrical industry, having the same work ethic of his brother Joe. I will pray for him next Sunday at mass. May he be at peace in heaven.

Nick became a very dear friend of both my wife and I. So much so, that we named our son after him. I was deeply saddened when I was informed of his passing even though, I expected it. They say you measure a person not by their physical size but what´s inside. Nick Dutto had the biggest, loving heart second to none. His love and generosity for family and friends will never, ever be equaled. He will be sorrowfully missed even though I know he is in a much better place and suffering no more. I just wonder if Almighty God is prepared and ready for the reunion between Joey Alioto and Nick Dutto? What a pair! Farewell my dear friend, Nick. Until we meet again.

Nick was a childhood friend in which we played baseball together and coached by his Dad and mine as well. We followed in our parents footprints by working on the electrical industry. I will always cherish our memories and friendship. Rest in Peace Nick. Please accept my most sincere condolences to all of his family and friends. All the Best!
