Nicholas Dell Flaherty

Mr. Nicholas "Nick" Dell Flaherty, age 77, of Shepherdsville, Kentucky returned to his Heavenly Father on Friday, March 22, 2024, after a 10-year battle with dementia. He was born in Louisville, Kentucky to the late Herbert Michael and Anna Marie (Napier) Flaherty on November 9, 1946. Mr. Flaherty worked as an assembly lineman for Ford Motor Company until his retirement after 23 years. He also worked in retail as a beer salesman where he retired from River City. Mr. Flaherty was a graduate of Flaget High School, class of 1964. Along with his parents, preceding him in death are his, daughter, Shannon Sullivan; son, Sean Flaherty; sisters, June Kelly (Russell), Janet Flaherty, and Patsy Slayton; brother, Donnie Flaherty; sister, Gayle Parrish; brothers, Bobby, Duane and Dennis Flaherty.
Nick was a man who loved his family dearly. He was very kind-hearted and giving. He was an avid UofL fan and loved watching the games. He was a member of St. Athanasius Catholic Church for over 25 years where he became a president of the booster club, volunteered, and worked picnics, helped build the gymnasium, and even coached his children when they were little on the St. Athanasius basketball team. Nick was a very punctual man and a very hard worker. He always had a great smile. Nick treated the love of his life, Barbara, like she had bubble wrap all around her. He wanted to take very good care of her, and he did just that. He was a veteran in the United States Army reserves. When he passed, he took a piece of everyone's heart with him and will be deeply missed.
He leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife of 55 1/2 years, Barbara (Heitzman) Flaherty; grandchildren, Trey and Anna Sullivan and Christian Flaherty; sisters, Nancy Branstetter (Kenny) and Brenda Vincent (Eddie); and a host of nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 am on Tuesday, April 2, 2024 at St. Athanasius Catholic Church with interment in Calvary Cemetery. Family and friends can pay their respects on Monday, April 1, 2024, from 2:00 pm until 8:00 pm at Schoppenhorst, Underwood and Brooks Funeral Home (Preston Hwy. at Brooks Rd). Expressions of sympathy can be made to Kosair's Children's Hospital.
