SHREWSBURY - Nicholas Halal, 78, passed away peacefully on Thursday, surrounded by the love of his family and the compassionate care of the staff at St. Francis Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in Worcester.
Born and raised in Worcester, Nick was the son of Nicholas and Alice (Saad) Halal. He spent the past 37 years living in Shrewsbury, where he and his beloved wife of 37 years, Wendy L. (Brown) Halal, built a life filled with love and devotion. Wendy passed away in 2023.
Nick's greatest joy in life was his family. He will be lovingly remembered and deeply missed by his four children: Nicole Halal and her partner Kyle Simpson of Shrewsbury; Jenna Halal of Worcester; Nicholas Halal III and his wife Abigail of Holden; and Anthony Halal and his wife Arianna of Spencer. He was a proud and adoring Jiddo to his cherished grandchildren: Owenn Simpson, AJ Halal, Jaxson Halal, Holden Halal and Nolan Halal. He also leaves his sister, Barbara Halal of Cranston, RI. In addition to his wife and parents, Nick was predeceased by four siblings: Donald, James, Effie, and Adele Halal.
A graduate of Classical High School in Worcester, Class of 1965, Nick had a passion for construction from a young age. At just sixteen, he began working in the field and went on to serve as a site manager, project manager, and business owner, operating both K&N Trucking and Jann Trucking over the years.
Nick lived a full and faith-filled life. A devoted member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church in Worcester, he found strength in his faith and joy in simple pleasures. He especially loved sharing meals with Wendy-often at the Wexford House in Worcester-watching the races at New England Dragway in Epping, NH, and casting a line into a quiet lake. He was known to keep a fishing rod and tackle box in his truck, always ready for a spontaneous fishing stop if the opportunity arose.
Above all, Nick was a family man. He and Wendy rarely missed their sons' baseball games or their grandchildren's sporting events. He will be remembered for his quiet presence, quick wit, and unwavering love for those closest to him.
The Family would like to thank the Vascular team at UMass, Fresenius Dialysis Center of Shrewsbury, and St. Francis Rehabilitation for the wonderful care of their Father.
Relatives and friends are invited to visit Nick's family from 9 to 11 am on Friday, August 1, at Our Lady of Perpetual Help, 256 Hamilton Street, Worcester followed by a funeral service at 11 am. Interment will follow at Notre Dame Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Nick's name to Our Lady of Our Perpetual Help, 256 Hamilton St., Worcester 01604. Funeral arrangements are in the care of Miles Funeral Home of Holden.
