Obituary of Nicholas Armondo Martinez
Nicholas Armondo Martinez, October 27, 1990 – August 26, 2025
Nicholas Armondo Martinez, 34, of Livonia, Michigan, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, August 26, 2025, at his home. Nicholas was a fighter from his very first breath. Born prematurely and with a difficult prognosis, his survival was a miracle that set the tone for a life defined by strength and a loving heart.
Diagnosed with Asperger's syndrome at age eight, Nicholas saw the world in a unique and beautiful way. He attended Burger School for children on the spectrum before graduating from Churchill High School in 2008, where he proudly participated in ROTC and the football team. He went on to study culinary arts at Oakland Community College.
Nicholas was a man of simple pleasures and all-consuming passions. He was an avid collector of things he loved, including Coca-Cola memorabilia, patriotic items, and his extensive collection of movies and vinyl records. His greatest loves were Godzilla and WWE wrestling; a devotion he carried with him his entire life. He cherished his family, especially his mom, and loved cruising and traveling with her. He looked forward to his Sunday estate sales with his dad and family dinners. He had an endless supply of corny jokes, which became affectionately known as "Nick jokes." Over the past year, Nicholas found a true community of friends on the platform X, people who genuinely loved him and made him feel seen, and cared for.
He was a man who craved connection and never stopped giving love. For 16 years, his dog, Spike, was his closest companion. For Nicholas, relationships were everything. He lived a life longing for a connection he didn't always receive, but he never stopped giving love. Nicholas's love was constant. For years, he sent his mother a text every morning, afternoon, and night, saying "I love you" and checking in. Even after he moved home, he continued to deliver these messages in person. His mother always knew she could count on his love and devotion. But his mom was not the only one, after his passing, she found out that he shared that love with others as well when she came across a memorial service being held in his honor on X.
He is survived by his mother, Bridjet Sayig; his father, Gregg Skattie; his siblings, Patricia Cotton, Joshua Tanner (Emily), Zachary Skattie, and Rebecca Skattie; his nephews, Justin, Christopher, Lincoln, and Lachlan; his grandma, Anne Sterling, and many aunts, uncles, and cousins. Nicholas is reunited in death with his older brother, Rolando Tanner, and his best friend, his dog, Spike.
Nicholas was a gifted writer who valued loyalty, humor, and joy above all else. He showed us that love is a choice we make every single day. He will be remembered as a son who loved his mother fiercely and a man who found beauty where others overlooked it. His absence is immeasurable, and he will be profoundly missed.
