IN LOVING MEMORY
Nicholas John Reis
Sep 02 1950 - Jan 26 2026 Jan 26 2026
Nicholas John Reis, of
Allen, Texas, met his Savior face to face on January 26, 2026. Nick was born on September 2, 1950, in
Metairie, Louisiana, to Frank and Eva Reis. Born two months premature, he entered the world as a fighter, a trait that would define his life in every season.
Nick is preceded in death by his parents, his brothers, Frank Reis and Clifford Reis, and his sister-in-law, Sylvia Reis. He is survived by his loving wife of more than 54 years, Ava Reis of
Allen, Texas; his sons, Bill Reis and wife, Lindsey of Frisco, Texas, Roy Reis and wife, Jessica of Plano, Texas, and Nick Reis and wife, Micah of Prosper, Texas. He is also survived by his sister-in-law, Elaine Reis of
Metairie, Louisiana; brother-in-law, Bill Adkins and his wife, Ana of Ocala, Florida; niece, Sheryl Mazerat and her husband, Don of Kenner, Louisiana; niece, Laurie Brister and her husband, Andy of Lake Providence, Louisiana; nephew, Clifford Reis, Jr. and his wife, Wendy of Alexandria, Virginia; and niece, Karen Barrilleaux and her husband, John of Thibodaux, Louisiana. He also leaves behind treasured great-nieces and nephews. He was the proud "Papa" of four precious granddaughters, Hadley Reis, Taylor Reis, Zoey Reis, and Jordan Reis, each of whom brought him immense joy.
Nick and Ava were married on January 8, 1972, at Calvary Baptist Church in Algiers, Louisiana, a marriage grounded in faith, devotion, and partnership that endured through every chapter of life.
A man of deep Christian faith, Nick was baptized when he was 22-years-old in Ponchatoula, Louisiana, with the high school baseball team that he coached in attendance. In addition to his faith, sports were a lifelong passion. An accomplished athlete, Nick was an All-State pitcher in high school and continued his baseball career at Southeastern Louisiana University in Hammond, Louisiana, where both he and Ava graduated in 1974.
Called to coach, Nick began his career at Ponchatoula High School, becoming the youngest head baseball coach in the state of Louisiana. While he cherished his time there, the call of Texas football proved irresistible. In the summer of 1976, Nick and Ava moved to Odessa, Texas. With the confidence and competitive spirit that defined him, Nick walked into the Odessa Permian field house and was hired on the spot - launching a formative and deeply cherished season of life as he and Ava raised their sons.
In 1994, Nick moved his family to
Allen, Texas, where he continued building a successful career in the oil business, a field he had entered later in life. Though his later years were marked by significant health challenges, his resolve never wavered. No matter the obstacle, Nick could always be found in the stands - at his granddaughters' plays, choir concerts, sporting events, birthday parties, and celebrations. After growing up with two brothers and raising three sons, the joy his granddaughters brought him was unexpected and profound, touching not only Nick but the entire family.
Above all, Nick will be remembered as a devoted husband, a proud father and grandfather, a coach and mentor, and a man who lived his life anchored in faith. His legacy lives on through the family he loved fiercely and the many lives he impacted along the way.
A funeral service will be held at 9:00 a.m., Saturday, January 31, 2026, at Prestonwood Baptist Church in the Faith Chapel, 6801 West Park Boulevard, Plano, Texas 75093 with the Reverend Michael Buster officiating. Nick will be interred during a private committal service at Ridgeview Memorial Park in Allen.
