Nicholas Strandberg Obituary
Published by Legacy on Dec. 5, 2025.
JP Nicholas (Nick) Strandberg, also known as Grandpa, lived a long, full life. Nick was born on January 7, 1941, the only child of John and Margaret Strandberg in Minneapolis. He spent his first twelve years in St. Michael, Minnesota and maintained a special love for that small town. Nick attended Annunciation elementary school after moving back to the big city and was in the first graduating class of Benilde High School. He
received his Bachelor of Arts from St. Thomas College. (And years later, he would insist on finding a "College of St. Thomas" sweatshirt rather than settling for one that said "University.") Nick joined ROTC while at St. Thomas, though rumor has it that he left because he couldn't march! He went on to get his Masters of Science in Business from the University of Minnesota.
Nick had many jobs. He started working for Northwestern Woolen Company when he was 14, selling
snowsuits door-to-door on summer break. He worked for American Health Studios during college, which launched his interest in health and wellness. After college, he sold insurance, then advertising for the Star Tribune and later the Sun Newspapers, and then radio time for WLOL. He joined Calhoun Companies in 1979 as an independent business broker. He loved helping people sell and buy businesses, working right up until 2 months before his death.
Nick was a 4th Degree member of the Knights of Columbus, an avid student of Scripture, and a regular
lector at St. Therese of Deephaven. In earlier years, he was involved with youth ministry, the school board, and Faith Formation. It was Nick who introduced Feed My Starving Children to the parish community.
He was industrious, tenacious, and optimistic. To Nick, no glass was ever half-empty. He was an incorrigible (if corny) jokester and a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. Nick was loving, loyal, and honest. He was humble, patient, and kind. He was a good man.
He loved his sons and grandsons and loved following their endeavors. Whether it was tee-ball, baseball, basketball, hockey, karate, fencing, concerts, or plays. From early on, he'd be down on the floor building some structure, playing a game, or reading a story. He was a hands-on dad and Grandpa.
Nick is survived by his wife of 55 years, Pat, his sons Jason (Emily), Corey, and Jeremy (Angel), his grandsons Asher, Noah, and Christopher, his brother-in-law Ted (Mary Jean) Eisenbacher, his nieces and nephews, and his many friends.
The family would like to thank Dr. Mark Wilkowske, Dr. Joel Greenwood, Angels Erin, Rebecca, and Deb
of Park Nicollet Hospice, and all those who gave comfort, care, and love to Nick these last 10 years
.
