Nicholas Hunter Streiff

Nick lost a hard-fought battle against cancer on May 14, 2024. Although his fight was short, the strength and determination he showed exemplified the courageous young man he was.
Nick was born in Roseau, MN on June 2, 1998 and passed away on May 14, 2024 in his hometown of Warroad, MN. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Beverly Streiff and John Heneman. He is survived by his loving parents Heather and Gordon, brothers Austin (Paige) and Jared, grandparents Dinah Heneman and Howard Streiff, uncles Rhody Heneman (Laurie) and Paul Heneman (Karrie), aunts Susan Streiff and Sonya Streiff, cousins Kaitlyn (Cole), Savannah (Kyle), Tyler, Cameron, Lauren, Maggie, John, Sam, Ben, and many beloved coaches, teammates, friends, and coworkers.
From a young age, Nick was extremely thoughtful and dependable. He was the first to identify tasks around the house or yard that needed attention and completed them without being asked. He was the first to help snow blow after a snowstorm or make pancakes for his mom on Mother's Day.
Nick graduated from Warroad High School in 2017 and was always proud of the black and gold. He received his Bachelor's degree in Economics with a Minor in Management from the University of Minnesota in 2021 and began working at Gateway Bank in Mendota Heights, MN. Nick loved his work and colleagues and had dreams of eventually returning home to Security State Bank in Warroad.
Nick was a natural athlete who loved being out on the ballfield, skating on outdoor ice, playing football under the Friday night lights, and playing the occasional round of golf. He learned to skate at age 2 and played hockey competitively through high school. He continued to play in men's league at Polar Arena up until a month before his passing. He was also an avid baseball player, who was incredibly proud of helping lead the Warriors to their first State baseball tournament in 12 years. After graduation, he was a member of the Warroad Muskies baseball team until moving to the Twin Cities full-time in 2022.
Nick was a part of the proud Streiff family deer hunting tradition. Starting at age 10, Nick never missed a deer season. He enjoyed a peaceful morning sit in the stand as much as evenings with his Uncle Rhody and the crew out at Big Bucks Deer Camp. Nick had a knack for often bagging the biggest buck in camp.
He especially enjoyed his time on Lake of the Woods. He was a trusted first mate to his father, enjoyed fishing all day with his family, and kayaking at sunset. Nick made it a point to spend as much time as he could at his parent's cabin at the Northwest Angle.
One of his buddies said it best, "Every coach loved you, every teacher wanted you in their class, everyone wanted to be on your team. You were the type of guy that was mature for his age and helped us all navigate life while we were still trying to figure it out."
Nick was an old soul who was always ahead of his time. He touched so many lives and had such a profound impact on those around him. With his witty one-liners and near-perfect impressions, he brought so many smiles and laughs to his family and friends.
His family is forever grateful for the love and support of family and friends during this tough time. They are also grateful for the care he received at United Hospital in Saint Paul and the Warroad Care Center, as he was able to spend his last few days in Hockeytown USA.
A memorial service for Nicholas Streiff will take place on Saturday, May 18, 2024 at Zion Lutheran Church in Warroad at 2:00 pm with a visitation an hour prior.
