Mr. Nicholas George "Nick" Tate, 54, of Knoxville, Tennessee, passed away on February 17, 2025.
Born on November 19, 1970, in Knoxville, Nick was a lifelong resident of Knoxville. He graduated from Fulton High School before continuing his education at Carson-Newman University.
He often talked about growing up on Teeple Street. He had the best memories of the woods behind his childhood home and his buddies that lived in the neighborhood & growing up in a time that kids today could only wish for.
On January 1, 1999 Nick & Jessica met on a blind date and were married September 4, 1999. In 2006 they welcomed their first child Lily Helena and then in 2009 Henry (Hank) Owen was born. Nick liked to refer to the four of them as "Team Tate".
Nick would say one of the most fun times in his life was coaching softball/ baseball for his kids teams. He loved seeing all the kids improve each time out on the field. He was not a competitive person and did not care to win or lose- he only wanted the kids to have fun and hopefully develop a passion for the game or have fun memories at the very least. He liked to think that the kids that are now playing in college were at least a little in love with the game because of him.
He would do anything to make you laugh. He was romantic. He loved to dance. He loved his mama. He endlessly loved his wife and kids. He wanted to be Santa when he got older. He was loyal and good. He loved movies and books and comics. He knew everything about everything and if he didn't he was already looking up the answer before you could even finish the thought. He was level headed and was a calming presence for his family and friends. He loved it when his great niece, Callie called him Uncle Nickel.
Nick was a sweet and tenderhearted person. He listened without judgment and offered support with an open heart. He was a true friend who is sure to be missed by many.
Nick is survived by his mother, Sharon (Green) Tate; his wife of 25 years, Jessica (Owen) Tate; and their two children, Lily Helena and Henry "Hank" Owen. He is also survived by his sister Melissa Tatum and her husband Tim; nephews Seth (Brittney) and Jon (Megan); great-nieces and nephews Callie Mae, Skye, Aubrey, and Ashton; as well as his brother Jack L. Tate. He was preceded in death by his father, Jack Tate.
May his memory bring comfort to those he leaves behind. It would be his wish that we laugh, reminisce and smile together during this time.
