Nick Davis Obituary

Nick J. Davis

1923 - 2021

Salt Lake City, UT—Our very dear friend and uncle, Nick J. Davis passed away peacefully surrounded by loved ones on January 7, 2021. He was born on July 25, 1923 to John Davis and Netsa Fasselin Davis. He grew up in Hiawatha, Utah. A member of "The Greatest Generation" – he truly lived up to the name.

Upon graduation from Carbon High School, he joined the US Navy. Nick served three years during World War II in the Submarine Service on the USS Greenling. He was a lifetime member of Submarine Veterans of WWII. He was immensely proud to have served his country, and we are honored to know him for it.

Nick married his long-time love, Lenna M. Pitts on August 1, 1948 in Notre Dame Church, Price, Utah. In 1950 they moved to Salt Lake City to raise their boys Michael and Marc. They were married 71 years.

Nick started his truck driving career when he was 16 years old, driving coal trucks for his dad. He drove during his high school years and after coming home from the service. After he and Lenna moved to Salt Lake, he owned and operated a long-haul trucking business for over 30 years. After many miles (good and bad) he retired, and they started traveling throughout the Western States in their old green motorhome with their trusty sidekick Buster the cat along for the adventure. Nick's motto was "It's a Good Night for Truckin'."

Nick was a friend to the kids in Canyon Rim, he was an expert bike fixer and handed out many bags of licorice. Kids would stop by after school and sit on the porch, or at the kitchen table. He loved to visit and tell stories and teach them the "Davis" way to do it. He had every bolt, screw, nail or whatzit in his shop or garage - If he didn't have the right tool – he would make one. He had a story for every occasion, and a smile that would light up the room when he told it.

Nick is preceded in death by Lenna and their two sons Michael and Marc, his parents, brother James and sister Mary. This is the end of an era.

"Uncle Nicky" is survived by many special nieces and nephews. He will also be greatly missed by many friends who have kept in touch over the years.

We would like to thank Joan, Teresa, Susan, Crystal and Joe for taking such good care of Lenna, Marc and Nick over the past year and a half. You made their last days so much better!

There will be a Celebration of Life and Committal Services for Nick, Lenna and Marc in Price at a later date; arrangements care of Mitchell Funeral Home, Price, Utah.

Awe Nick, I knew this day was coming, I am heartbroken. You and Lenna were second parents to me for many, many years. You taught me to drive a stick shift and give me my first ride in a Semi truck. Your home was the refuge I ran to. When I would be inside visiting I would always look out and see the hood of my car up, you checking my oil, making sure everything was in working order. I remember Netsa and Greek spaghetti and a couple swear words in greek. So many memories, I will only remember the good. Since Marc passed I have wanted to stop by and give you a hug, I wish I had. This last year was rough and while I am sad I find comfort that you are all together on the road to the next adventure. To the nieces, nephews & cousins of this dear family, treasure their memories and find peace and comfort.
