Nickie Hurley Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Jones & West Funeral Home on Mar. 30, 2026.
Born on May 20th, 1937, Nickie Hurley lived a life marked by strength, kindness, and unwavering faith. Through 88 rich years, he saw so much change in the world, yet he remained a steadfast rock for his family and all who knew him. Nickie is survived by his sisters Colleen and Clemey Hurley, he is preceded in death by his wife Christine Hurley, his mother and father (Audley and Annie Hurley), brothers, Orville and Paul David Hurley, sisters Bonnie Daugherty and Tootsie Collins (Clinton) and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.

On June 6th, 1957, Nickie married the love of his life, Christine-our sweet mother and his constant companion. Their marriage of 66 years was a true partnership: built on love, trust, and shared faith in the Church of God, which anchored their lives and our family home.

Together, they raised five children: Frank (Dora), Connie Sue Diamond, Nickie Eugene (Renee), Danny, and Joe D (Kathy) Hurley. Each of us carries a unique piece of Dad with us. He taught us the value of hard work, the comfort of a well-told story, and the quiet strength found in doing what's right day in and day out.

For 23 years, dad worked as a coal miner, toiling underground at the Chisholm Coal Mines to provide for his family. The work was hard, but he wore his years in the mines as a badge of honor. He always reminded us that honest work was not just about putting food on the table, but about building character and taking pride in every task, big or small.

Dad's faith was the foundation of his life. He led not with strict words, but by gentle example through small acts of kindness, his steady patience, and his constant willingness to lend a helping hand. He found joy in his family, laughter in simple moments, and solace in prayer.

Today, as we say goodbye, we find comfort in knowing he lived a full life: one devoted to his family, his faith, and his work. He leaves behind a legacy of love and strengthened legacy we are all a part of, and that we'll remember for generations to come.

We will miss him dearly, his stories, his quiet wisdom, the twinkle in his eye. But we know that he has found rest, free from pain, wrapped in the embrace of the Lord he served so faithfully.

Thank you, Dad, for everything. We love you, and we'll carry your memory in our hearts, always.

The family welcomes friends on Wednesday, April 1st, 2026 from 6-9 P.M. at the Jones & West Funeral Home located at 37035 State Highway 194 East.

Funeral services will begin at 1:00 P.M. Thursday, April 2nd, 2026 with Pastor Opie Ray Harris in the chapel.

Interment will follow in the Community Cemetery in Abes Branch at Phelps, Kentucky with friends and family serving as pallbearers.
