William Everett May, 72, of McCarr, Kentucky, passed away at his residence on March 15th, 2026. He was born on June 28th, 1953, in Matewan, W.V., the loving son of the late Everett & Fannie (Varney) May.

In addition to his parents, William was also preceded by his daughter, Karen May and his sister, Susie Robertson.

William was a retired coal miner, and he spent many hours working on vehicles. A cherished dad, papaw, and great grandpaw, William enjoyed the simple things in life. A few of his favorite things were a good cup of coffee, a cigarette and spending time with his grandchildren. He was a hoot to be around, and he will be missed by everyone who treasured his love.

Those surviving to honor his memory include his children, William (Megan) May of McCarr, KY, Chad (Jayme) May of Leitchfield, KY, Derrick May of McCarr, KY, and Monica (Kenny) Varney of Newtown, W.V.; one brother, John (Mildred) May of Hardy, KY; three sisters, Barbara (Harold) Dotson of McCarr, KY, Peggy (Larry) Stanley of Sidney, KY, and Sharon Murphy of Jeffersonville, IN.

William was the proud papaw to Keisha (Josh) Hatfield, Kyerstin (Timmy) Church, Ashley (Matt) May, Eric "Jake" (Keiona) May, Keonia Charles, Kaitlyn (Jesse) May, Max Varney, Donovan Yates, Calab Yates and Lillian Yates, great grandchildren, Braxton and Kaleb Hatfield, TJ and Kaelyn Church, Brionna Blankenship, and Carsen May. A special niece, Belinda Stiltner.

William also leaves behind a host of extended family and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 12:00 Noon on Thursday, March 19th, 2026 at the Old Rugged Cross Church in North Matewan, W.V. with Pastors Dave Stratton and Ronnie Charles officiating.

Visitation will be held nightly beginning Tuesday, March 17th, & Wednesday, March 18th, 2026 at 6:00 P.M. and service on Wednesday at 7:00 P.M. at the church.

Burial will conclude after the funeral at the May Cemetery in McCarr, Kentucky. Friends & family will serve as Pallbearers.
