Nicole Ann Hammel, known affectionately as Nikki to her friends and family, passed away peacefully on April 28, 2024, in Anderson, Indiana. Born on July 16, 1979, in Columbus, Indiana, Nikki's infectious smile and loving nature were evident from an early age.
Nikki was a proud graduate of Columbus East High School, where she formed many lifelong friendships. Her love for learning and passion for animals led her to further her education at Vincennes University and later at Indiana University, where she studied with dedication and joy. Nikki's professional life was a reflection of her love for animals. As a skilled dog groomer, she brought joy and care to countless furry friends and their owners. Her gentle touch and friendly demeanor made her a beloved figure in the community. Nikki's love for her work was only surpassed by the love she had for her family. She was a daughter to her parents, Phil and Deborah Hammel, and a mother to her daughters, Bailey Kirts and Reeve Jarrell. Nikki's spirit will be carried on through the lives of her children, who she cherished above all else. Her grandmother, Janet Hill, will fondly remember Nikki's visits and the laughter they shared. Though her brother, Jeremy Philip Hammel, preceded her in death, the bond they shared continues to be a source of comfort to the family.
Nikki's interests extended beyond her professional life. She was a beacon of positivity, always seeing the best in people and situations. Her love for animals was unmatched. Nikki was a happy person, always ready with a kind word or a helping hand. Those who knew Nikki will remember her as loving, friendly, and spirited. Her presence could light up a room, and her absence will be deeply felt by all who had the pleasure of knowing her. Nikki's legacy of love and kindness will continue to inspire those she left behind.
As we say goodbye to Nicole Ann Hammel, we celebrate the remarkable woman she was and the beautiful life she lived. Her memory will forever be cherished in the hearts of her family, friends, and all who were touched by her warm spirit.

My oldest son, Jimmy, was in a terrible car accident in 2015. He was in a coma for a bit. Nikki came to the hospital, and as we stood together by his bed, she and I both, suddenly had a big wave of vertigo affect us. We were feeling him! She told me that the angels were strong around him and that he was going to be okay. She had that amazing smile on her beautiful face! My son recovered well!

Pete, Nikki, and I went to see the band, Rusted Root at the Murat theater. Our seats were close to the sound board, and the three of us were dancing so much, they were afraid we would bump the equipment. Someone came up to us and asked if we would be okay with changing seats....to five rows away from the stage!!! Of course we didn't mind!! We moved and proceeded to groove even more!! Afterwards, we waited in Pete's VW camper until the band came out, so we could tell them hello!

My first time meeting Nikki, Jeremy brought her to our house. The first thing I remember noticing about her was her smile! That smile was beaming when she saw my brother, Pete's, VW pop top camper!!
