Nicolo' "Nick" Macchiarella, 85, husband to Linda (DiCaprio) Macchiarella, of Guilderland NY, passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 31, 2025, at home with his loving family by his side. Born March 3, 1940, he was the son of the late Sebastiano and Anna (LaTargia) Macchiarella.
He attended the apprenticeship program for metal technology and became a draftsman at the Cantiere navale di Palermo Shipyard. After moving to America, he worked as a plumber then a carpenter, and lastly a pastry chef which he retired from, believed to have been his most passionate.
He joined the Fort Hunter Volunteer Fire department and became a lifetime member with 50 years of service, where he devoted his life to helping his community.
He is survived by his wife Linda Di Caprio Macchiarella and three sons, Nick S. Macchiarella, partner Joanne Longtin, Anthony Macchiarella, partner Daniel Goldstein, Daniel P. Macchiarella, wife Jennifer Foley Macchiarella and their two children Madison O. and Daniel N. He is also survived by his sisters Antoinette Tralongo, Lia Russo, Ellena Mallozzi, Maryanne Miano, and brother Robert Macchiarella.
Visitation will take place on Sunday September 7, 2025, from 11:00 am - 2:30 pm. At 2:30pm, the Fort Hunter Fire Department will perform a service to honor Nicolo and his half a century of service, at New Comer Cremations & Funerals, 343 New Karner Rd., Colonie NY 12205. On Monday, September 8, 2025, friends are welcome to return to the funeral home from 10:00 am - 11:00 am, with a Funeral Service to begin at 11:00am. Interment will follow at Most Holy Redeemer Cemetery, 2501 Troy Schenectady Rd, Niskayuna, NY 12309.
