Nieves T. Foronda ObituaryNieves Tandoc Foronda, 90, of Chicago, Illinois, was born into eternal life on Monday, September 2, 2024. A devoted and beloved wife, mother, daughter, sister, and friend, Nieves was born on May 15, 1934, to Emigdio and Agueda (nee: Calimlim) Tandoc in Dagupan, Philippines.
Preceded in death by her loving husband of 63 years Renato Foronda Sr. Loving mother of Renato Jr. (MaJessa), Gerry (Emma), Joe (Siely), John and Mary Ann. Loving grandmother to Renessa (Chris) Dempsey, Roeland, Raymund, Kevin (Cecelia), Kyle, Amanda, Brandon, Andrew and Sofia. Dearest great-grandmother of Maria Dempsey. Fond sister to Mauricio Tandoc (RIP), Roberto Tandoc (RIP), Thomas Tandoc (RIP), Linda Tandoc Jose (RIP), Lita Tandoc Camasura, Nancy Tandoc Buenviaje and Emigdio Tandoc Jr. (RIP). Further survived by nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
Nieves was raised in the province of Dagupan in the Philippines and attended Centro Escolar University, School of Optometry graduating at age 18. She went to Pasig for her Doctorate and practiced optometry for one and a half years. Nieves met Renato Foronda when she was 19 years old and by age 22, they eloped! She always followed her heart. Which also explains why later in their marriage, Renato and Nieves always held a formal celebration for their milestone anniversaries. Love shall be celebrated!
In 1968, Renato left for the United States and petitioned for his wife and five children to come to America. After four years, the Foronda family was reunited in Chicago in November 1972. Those years Renato and Nieves were apart was a sacrifice for their family and a reason the two were inseparable afterwards.
In Chicago, Nieves built a 32-year career with American Vision, working on Michigan Avenue, at two different locations. As the Foronda family grew with in-laws and grandchildren, their home on N. Kedvale Ave became the place for great food and better company. Renato and Nieves created a home where all were welcome and memories for generations were made. Christmas was Nieves' favorite holiday and each year they hosted noche buena, the Christmas Eve celebration. The family attended midnight mass together and afterwards at Kedvale, gifts were passed out by Grandpa as a feast was shared.
In her more active years, Nieves enjoyed caring for her rose bushes in the backyard and cooking alongside her husband. A selfless lady, often her time and talents were dedicated to serve her family and friends however she could. As a faith filled woman and devout Catholic, Nieves had a special devotion to our Blessed Mother Mary, especially Our Lady of Manaoag. Her marriage words of wisdom; a husband and wife are a team. They work together and respect one another. Nieves' sage life advice, pray, always pray. Thank God for what you have and do not lose hope.
