Mr. Nikki Terel Sledge, 54, of Franklin, Virginia.
I began this journey of life on March 10, 1968, in Halifax County, North Carolina to the late Margaret "Peggy" Sledge when I was named Nikki Terel Sledge. My mother affectionally called me "Rock." My untimely departure from this world to eternal life was Saturday, October 29, 2022, in Boykins, Virginia while I was a resident in Franklin, Virginia.
I was reared most of my life in the Lincoln Heights Community of Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina. I grew up in a Christian home where my mother and my aunt (my second mother) taught all of us, my siblings and my cousins, the way of the Lord. We not only heard God's word attending church, but we heard it every day at home! Having heard so much about God and becoming a believer in His word, I accepted Christ as my personal Savior and joined Community Church of Christ No.2 under the pastorship of Elder Arthur Graham.
I attended and graduated from Northwest-Halifax High School, Littleton, North Carolina with the Class of 1986. After high school, I became employed with various companies with some of them being Style Setters, Bibbs, Perdue, and my last employment being at Kopper Utility and Industrial Products in Newsoms, Virginia.
I had many hobbies with some of them being fishing (you all can figure that one out LOL), and of course, riding my motorcycle. I was also a die-hard Dallas Cowboys fan.
I was proceeded in death by my wonderful mother, Missionary Margaret "Peggy" Sledge; My father, Elbert Newell; Four siblings, named Byron Newell, Anthony Newell, Ronnie Newell, and Ella Oates.
My treasured memories will linger in the minds of my loving children: Qua'Nisha Gibbs and Joquez Gibbs of Raleigh, NC, Trevor A. Wyche of Rocky Mount, NC, Justice Parrott of Greensboro, NC, and Sameylah Sledge of the home. My precious grandchildren: Ava Mae Jenkins, Wynter Gibbs, Kai Jenkins, and Skylar Gibbs, all of Raleigh, NC; my inseparable siblings: Keith Sledge (wife, Eartie), Tanice Alston, and Zyrl Sledge (Stephanie), all of Roanoke Rapids, NC; and Tyrl Sledge (wife, Tracy) of Raleigh, NC; my aunt, who was my second mom: Ella Lee Baker of Roanoke Rapids, NC; my first cousins who were like my siblings, namely: William Baker (wife, Nicole), Sylvia Robinson (husband, William) and Trevii Baker (wife, Patience), all of Roanoke Rapids, NC; other siblings: Frank Newell of Gloucester, NJ, Larry Newell and Debbie Newell of Philadelphia, PA, Carey Newell and Bridgette Newell of Roanoke Rapids, NC and Cynthia Newell of Atlanta, GA; my wonderful aunt: Ellen Ann Rawls of Emporia, VA; and a long-time childhood friend: Willie "Cole Slaw" Purnell of Roanoke Rapids, NC; and a host of supportive nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
A Visitation will be held for Mr.Sledge on Sunday, November 6, 2022 from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm at the Chapel of H.D. Pope Funeral Home located at 520 Smith Church Road, Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina.. Funeral services will follow the visitation beginning at 2:00 pm.
The interment will take place immediately after the service at the Crestview Cemetery Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina.
