Nilda Hernandez

Nilda Colon, also affectionately known as Niki, took her last breath in Springfield, Massachusetts on February 23, 2026. Born to Hilda Hernandez on December 6, 1956, Nilda was an individual who carried the essence of compassion, loyalty, and love in her persona. She was a smart woman, who knew the depth of words and the power of understanding. Nilda believed in the power of being heard, and despite the trials she faced in life, she never underestimated the importance of comprehension and connection.

Nilda was a Catholic, who found solace in her faith and the teachings of God. Her belief in God and the verses from the Bible gave her strength and played an instrumental role in shaping her values. As the Bible says, "Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God" (Matthew 5:8). Nilda embodied this verse through her actions and the love she bestowed on her family. Even amidst her battles with depression, she remained a beacon of hope and resilience, always ensuring her family knew of her love for them.

Nilda's love for reading was a testament to her knowledge and understanding of the world. She found comfort in the pages of books, each one offering her a respite from the world, and a chance to explore new realms of thought. Nilda's life, though marked with challenges, was a testament to her strength and spirit. She was preceded in death by her loving mother, Hilda Hernandez.
