Nina Fockens Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by N.H. Scott & Hanekamp Funeral Home on Jan. 28, 2026.
Nina Fockens, 90, of Northbrook, formerly of Glenview, passed away December 8, 2025. Beloved wife of the late Pieter Fockens; loving mother of Steven (Wendy) and Randall (Meredith); cherished grandmother of Caleb, Rachel and Aiden; dear sister of Vivian Bachelder and aunt of Bruce and Mark.

Nina received a Bachelor's degree from Northern Illinois University in speech therapy. She worked as a speech therapist after graduation and later took a break in her career to stay home with her children. In midlife, Nina attended Garrett-Evangelical Theological Seminary and received a Master's of Divinity. She worked for many years as a chaplain at Presbyterian Homes in Evanston and had a lasting impression on the residents, their families and the staff. Nina was a beloved friend, sister and mother. Her smile, friendliness and good cheer were a comfort to all with whom she came in contact.

Memorial service will be held Saturday, March 14 at 10 am at the Glenview Community Church, 1000 Elm St. (at Glenview Road), Glenview. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Glenview Community Church, 1000 Elm St., Glenview, IL 60025.

Nina was an especially close friend of mine in Chapter Eight at Glenview Community Church, many years ago (before I needed to stop going to Chapter Eight meetings due to time constraints). She was always such a warm, friendly person. I particularly remember when she was studying for the ministry and was struggling with "why bad things happen to good people". But she was able to move forward and her ministry was greatly appreciated.
