Nina Gates "Nell" McMillan

Nina "Nell" Gates McMillan, age 94, passed away June 12, 2024, at Maplewood Lane Assisted Living, AL. She was born August 14, 1929, in Eutaw, AL to Louie Eugene Gates and Alma Gates Parr. Nell was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Francis "Frank" McMillan; brother and sister-in-law, Gene and Ruth Gates; and grandson, Jeffery Stewart.
She is survived by her children, Rene McGinty (Joe), Marion Lynn Stewart (Billy Joe), and Frank McMillan (Frances). Nell is also survived by three grandsons: Ryan McGinty (Erin), Jason Stewart (Aby), and Andy Stewart (Jenifer); seven great grandchildren; Jack and Emerson McGinty, Aubrey, Barrett, Parker, Caroline, and Cooper Stewart. She is also survived by her nieces Alma Scroggins (Lee), Sunee Lavender (Tom), and nephew, Russell Gates.
Nell taught and worked in the children's Sunday School department for 60 years at Greensboro Baptist Church. She started work in the Hale County Clerk's office and then became the administrator for the Hale County Commission and worked there for 26 years until her retirement. Nell was an active member of the Calliope Club for 65 years.
She will be laid to rest in the Alabama National Cemetery in Montevallo, Al on Thursday, June 20, 2024, with a committal service at 11 a.m. The Reverand Dee McGuire pastor of Greensboro Baptist Church will be officiating.
